My 2022 Laramie, with 3200 miles, has developed spots on the drivers door handle where paint is chipping. Its a small area and there is no evidence that anything caused this other than maybe dust or something under the paint. I took it to my dealer and he told me he didnt have much luck in getting Chrysler to honor paint issues. He offered to order me a bottle of touch up paint. I thought about it and agreed to take the high road and said ok. Then when the touch up paint arrived Parts told me it was $25 dollars. I said its a warranty issue, he goes out and talks to the service rep and he said no its not. So I bought a $69,000 truck and the rep didnt even have the courtesy to come talk to me or call me later. I was so pissed off. Left the dealership fuming. Needless to say I didnt buy the paint from them, got it on Amazon.
Am I being to picky? Should I just forget it? It has soured me on the whole dealership.
Thanks for your feedback

If it is only a door handle I would highly suspect a jewelry problem.
After painting a few things in my life I always inspect people's body parts B4 getting near my paint!
No rings, watch bands, purses, and the like near my Porche!
That little click when they collide with the paint is damage being done.
The other thing is fingernails!
Look behind a door handle on cars and trucks and look at the scrape marks from people that have not a clue
as to what they are doing!
You have to rain them to get in, serious.

If it is in fact poor paint job you need to take this further up the flag pole. And keep notes of every interaction. Painted door handles is not the best idea car mfg. have ever come up with. Unless you keep them constantly sealed with like a ceramic coating they are going to show all the things tourqued mentioned.

Thanks for reponse, but no jewelry issues on this one. When I went to use the touch up paint pen another piece chipped off. Clearly paint adhesion.
The biggest issue for me was my service dept seems to care less. These spots are where I see them every time I get in the truck. Guess I will just have to live with it.
After about 15 thin applications with the touch up pen its better but I'm betting it wont last.

If it is just painted it is a pretty EZ fix.
Yes, the trucks only a couple of months old. Mainly my gripe is the dealership should take care of it, at the very least provide the paint.

If you can , if it is a metal part, take it off , sand it smooth, use etching primer, use a small gun, shoot the base coat, shoot the clear...
Hint -
don't buy clear, make a deal with a local shop that paints -time your base coat with them and they can "clear your part and you will not have to buy a quart of it.

Your truck has a 3-36 bumper to bumper warranty. I would press the issue or take it to another dealer to see what they say. I know paint issues can be a pain and dealers give you the run around, but with what trucks cost now, I'd take my chances and complain a little louder. The paint should not be chipping off like that.

Your dealer is lacking, I agree with you. They should provide the paint at the
least. Document the issue, don't mess with the service guy or salesman, go
straight to the manager, the boss, and have him come outside and look at the issue.
Good luck.

There should be a section in the owners manual about arbitration for things like this, but you & dealership need to escalate it up the food chain, I know first hand about it because I took Dodge to arbitration over the paint job on a brand new 1992 Grand Caravan LE, once arbitrator looked over, a few weeks later he it found in my favor, a few weeks later Dodge paid to have the whole van repainted...

Agree. Bought a 2003 1500 new. Washing it by hand a couple of weeks after purchase I noticed paint blisters in a distinctive pattern. It took a while and a rep from corp to look at it but they determined it was a defect. They couldn’t determine exactly what caused it but didn’t argue when I suggested it may have been from a spray of hydraulic fluid from a leaking cylinder or hose that got on the sheet metal before paint during assembly. They offered to paint it, buy it back or let me trade it for another truck. Picked out a different truck. I paid a little difference b/c the new truck had a few more options. That truck was in the family for 16 years and over 200k miles before selling it for $3,500.00. I know who has it. It’s still being driven daily. The engine has been rebuilt but, to my knowledge, the rest of the drive train is original.

The Rams coming out of Warren Michigan, like the Classic Rams
always leave the plant with the paint orange peeled

Times have changed. Getting upset doesn't help. Try another dealer.

My 2021 Laramie has Red Painted door Handles. I wear no jewellery of any kind. I too have a chip out of the drivers door, just above the chrome insert. I am going to ask my dealer about that next time I am near there. I have to agree with the comment that painted door handles isn't one of the better moves, just like painted bumpers. If I had the option of Chrome door handles, that is what would be on there but even with the chrome option it came with these mostly painted handles. The part that is painted seems to be black plastic so that may explain the easy chipping.1000002000.jpg
