I've been without my 2019 Laramie Sport for 7 weeks. The transmission died at just over 50k miles. The dealership said corporate had them jumping through hoops to get approval for warranty swap under powertrain warranty. I literally use my truck as a car, don't even tow! My biggest issue is they won't give me a loaner or rental until the part is received. They are estimating end of November! 4 months with a vehicle is ridiculous! Has any one ever experienced anything like this? My case manager isn't helping and I'm basically stuck. I've owned over 30 new vehicles and have never been treated so bad. I just bought an AV company and about to buy 12 vehicles. Please tell me this is a fluke and Chrysler Corp doesn't usually treat customers this poorly. This truck was almost 66k for heavens sake!

Hopefully you have the Mopar Extended Warranty

Do they know that you are in the market to buy vehicles ?

Its still under the standard powertrain warranty, which is why I'm extremely pissed off! One of my employees had a damn hyundai that he bought second hand and the engine blew. Hyundai had him in a loaner in a day and he didn't even buy the car at a Hyundai dealership! Wth... I told my case manager I was in the market for a dozen vehicles, she was like we will try and expedite your part. I'm like I need a loaner or rental "we can't until we secure the part"

Yeah, the rental thing is frustrating with our local dealer too. Wife's 21 Pacifica has been with them for 2 weeks now with a Star case open about a uConnect issue. Warranty says we are due a rental. But the dealer says they only have 7 loaners, while having over 30 people needing them. We are "on the list". We are lucky that we have extra vehicles and it's not actually a hardship for us. But it's still not right. Corporate Mopar said they should get us an Enterprise rental, etc, but dealer says no.

Frustrating that nobody seems to be able to hold them to what the warranty says. It doesn't say you only get a rental if we happen to have one. But I read in the Ram forums quite a bit about the same thing happening all the time at Mopar dealers. I guess it is the norm.

Are GM and Ford any better about this?

This is my first, and last Mopar vehicle ever! I've never been treated like this at ANY GM dealership. I buy vehicles all the time. Hell they have given me loaners for an oil change lol... How can they expect to have someone without their main transportation for 4 months?!? That's INSANE!

Agreed, and I sure don't blame you for feeling that way. We've only been Mopar owners for about 2.5 years and have not had our vehicles in much for service. So not sure if this just BAU for Mopar dealers or something they blame on the pandemic.

I've also had new Ford, GMC and Caddy's over the years. Never had that issue with them as far as rentals, that I can remember. The Ford dealer would send me across the street to a rental car company. Had to do that a lot, since I owned a new 2003 Ford truck with the first year 6.0 PSD in it. It was in the shop all the time. Lemon lawed that one.

Besides crappy transmissions... dealers are too mostly, and mama mopar will lie and scam you. They told me I would be without a revised alternator once for 3 or 4 months, they expected me to be without the car that long, over an alternator. Sad..
they put the "unrevised unimproved" alternator on when I told them how crazy they were. Then they lied to the government and said the recall was done. The new alternators were supposed to have better diodes due to failure and fires that the recalled ones had.Mama Mopar is a biotch and a crook.

I think it really depends on the dealer but the ram dealer by me has been relatively good. Truck went in for warranty on a failed tipm and they gave me a loaner. I was told anything under warranty if they have loaners I’m eligible to get one if needed. As that was my only mode of transportation besides my work van I got a loaner. 3 times because they didn’t find out it was the tipm until the third time. My gmc van went in and had the trans replaced at around 25,000 miles and they put in a rebuilt trans “because it’s just as good and we can’t get new ones in” and im pretty sure it’s going out again at 45,000 miles (20,000 on the rebuilt trans). And im having electrical issues. The battery charging voltage keeps dropping down from 14.5 to in the 13s or completely going down to 12.4v. Haven’t had a chance to bring the van in but warranty is up. 3 years 36000 miles. And no loaner

We have a Hyundai and there was a recall on the engine because it went out. We did not get a rental car and they had our car for over two months. I think it’s a nationwide problem not just a specific car company. Luckily we have two vehicles so we made it work. Hopefully they will get the part sooner rather than later!

Disclaimer... I am not defending anyone. This is just my opinion.

It's definitely an unfortunate situation you're dealing. Unfortunately I think it's like that pretty much everywhere because of the current situation in this country and world. Staff and supplies are a very hot commodity but are also very limited so maybe they can't tie things up for long periods of time. They just may not have a loaner available to tie up that long. Unfortunately we have to deal with the ramifications of what's happening. Good luck and I hope you get everything straightened out

Last year I had the head replaced on my 2018. It took a few weeks to get the parts. The dealer had a loaner for me the whole time. Not a truck so I couldn't take my camping trailer anywhere... but at least I had something to drive. We have a good dealer.

I get that but when you spend almost 70k on a truck there is no excuse for it.... they should be paying for a rental at a minimum

Have you ever had a warranty issue at a GM dealership during a time with the supply chain problems we face today? Right now the dealers can't get cars to sell, much less have enough for loaners. I'm not making excuses for them...I feel your pain. But things are different right now, and the dealers can't control that.

Yea actually a couple times. There are plenty of rental cars, Chrysler just doesn't step to the plate. They tried everything to get out of paying the warranty anyway. Had the techs at the dealership run the transmission fluid through coffee filters, replace sensors and try different diagnostic tests that we both knew were a waste of time. It took a month to get approval to order new transmission, which put the part further behind. That's not supply chain related, that's incompetence and ****** customer service. My service advisor showed me what Chrysler was sending him and was shocked. They acted like there is no way the transmission died blah blah blah. Leaving me without my primary vehicle is inexcusable for this amount of time. I just ordered 10 new Chevy Silverados and 2 14ft box truck. Was going to buy Rams, but never again... The Chevy dealer even offered me a loaner today until my trucks get here. Isn't that something....

one issue.
when they open & expose some thing to locate the issue, & they can't get he part right away.

They will not put the cover back on or replace screws or bolts, even though the broken part is not necessary to drive until the part comes in.

They rather park the vehicle some where in a lot full of broken vehicles.
They could say that we could pay them to reassemble your vehicle & we will call you when the part come in.
Instead they rather have your vehicle parked on their lot, so that when the part comes in, they can install the part, without having to wait on the vehicle owner to bring the vehicle in

I have been reading for years about how Chrysler, or whomever they are now, has been denying warranty at will. I still bought one because I really like my '94 Ram 2500, and the '68 Dodge D100 I owned. That, and this 2018 Ram is the most comfortable to me.

I only have the remainder of the powertrain warranty, which isn't that much longer, and hoping the combo I bought will last. Saying that, I bought knowing I will probably pay most, if not all, of any repairs I may need at the dealer for powertrain.

If I do need warranty work, and am denied or have to pay a large amount of it, I will take it to a competent shop and skip the dealer all together.

In 50 years of driving, I only found one competent shop, and I really believe that was a one off mistake on their part.

There was one good Ram dealer in my county, and a mega dealership bought them out this year.

There is one in the next county I've deal with on parts that are local owned, and seem to have a great rep. I just hope I never need to find out if the rep is justified.
