LOL wtf. Yeah truck would of been right back at the shop. Would mess with them first say you just want a simple oil change. The look on their face when they start walking back to tell you "story" within 5 minutes would be priceless. Then make them fix it right.

I bought the engine. They said it was from a 2010 ram when I purchased it.
Well they lied to you 2010 that motor was not used
Biggest issue is the idiot that installed it , bet he never put new oil in it
How long have you drove it since the swap? Take it back, motor will have to be lifted and pan pulled and changed, or the drain moved
This may have came out of a Dakota, I had one but older and at was a 6

I ran my own business for 20y. When a customer provided materials that were subpar or totally wrong, Id let them know and wouldn't use them.

The guy who put in that engine is a F******D full stop.

That's why I asked the OP what his pan looks like, if it looks like the one that the plug is offset in the picture that I provided then he received a much older motor.
As far as I can tell from Rockauto, all 4.7 pans of 2010/2011 etc vintage are the same part.
The offset plug pan is from a 2006.

So, I have a 2011 ram with the 4.7 engine. I had the engine swapped out a couple months ago with what I was told was from another ram truck.

So now today I go to change the oil, only to see that the frame is right below the drain plug. So I wasn’t able to use a socket and used a wrench to loosen it up. HOWEVER, it only gets loose to a certain point until it hits the frame and can’t come off completely. Oil barely drips out.

My question is, is there a solution to this or am I just SOL?
ya go back to who ever did the swap and have them do it right this time with prof of coming out of Ram

Drain hot not cold oil. Maybe new pan like a ‘racing’ pan. Definitely call your installers

UPDATE: Took it back to the shop that did the swap, told them I needed an oil change. Came back and told me they couldn’t do it and said they “didn’t realize” it was different when they swapped it. Long story short, they replaced the oil pan with the correct one free of charge.

Glad they did the right thing with no drama. Good for them & you.

Now that's service!!!! In a time and day of so many aspects of the service industry lacking "service".

They deserve a shoutout for doing that.

LOL so you did take my advice. That is awesome I am sure they were all stunned. Good that they did the right thing.

Great news and congrats on a peaceful resolution.

You might post the name & contact info of the shop if that's permissible. I'd want to know those details if I were paying for that kind of work.

If the engine is from another Ram,that makes me wonder if there might be a differance in the 4.7's oilpans between a 4X4 truck and a 2 wheel drive truck.I've never looked into the 4.7's oilpans, but it might be worth researching them to see if there is a differance
The 4.7 was used in Dakotas, Jeeps, and Rams for a short time. I'm guessing different applications had different oil pans.

More concerning that they didn't notice the drain issue.... they didn't do an oil change in it before starting up the motor or shortly there after! You don't drive a used/junk-yard motor, hell, I won't even start them without changing what is in there.
They may have drained it before installation, while it was out of the vehicle, and then just filled it up and started it.

For long time now when you buy a used engine from a salvage yard they drain the oil and coolant before shipping to you ! so chances are they pulled dip stick checked then installed and added fluids
