Share your catalytic converter anti-theft installations

In the 60’s there were contest to win free gasoline and to enter all you had to do is purchase the required amount of fuel and you were given a styrofoam ball with the logo of the gas station and if the judges saw you driving with the styrofoam on your radio antenna they would copy your license plate number and through your local gas station to contact you

So people would lessen the odds of someone else winning or just out of spite steal the styrofoam ball off the antennas

I remember people getting inventive and gluing the styrofoam ball or place straight pins through the styrofoam with the sharp end sticking out because most the thefts happened in the street or driveway at night the pins weren’t as visible. Some even thought to electrify the ball with battery voltage but refrained from the action for fear of killing somebody by mistake

Dang and the perps were stealing a converter in a grocery store parking lot. Amazing.

Not mine, but creative with some rebar and a welder. not sure if something like this could be done

A bolt on skid plate would be easy to defeat if the choppers are using a cutoff wheel vs a sawsall

I have gone thru all the posts for CC protection but did not see anything really that would be useful other than placing something over it to protect it from thief's. Has anyone toyed with the idea of using electronics like a Vibration Sensor placed on or near the CC?? Company I found on Amazon has several options that can be rigged to trap thieves from taking your CC. YoLink Outdoor Contact Sensor, and Yolink smart vibration and shock sensor. Couple of ways these sensors could be used would be like designing trip wires either around the perimeter of your vehicle or beneath your undercarriage, or placing the vibration detector on or near the CC. It could be paired with their outdoor siren to go off when tripped or you can get a text alerting you to a silent alarm. This company has many options to use. Please check it out and give a shout out with your ideas. I am From the Sacramento area and we are experiencing an explosion of thievery including CC theft, drilling holes in gas tanks, porch pirates. Many neighbors getting ripped off by these ****. Just a matter of time before they start hitting up my neighborhood. So far we have been lucky.

YoLink Smart Vibration & Shock Sensor​

I was looking into this and saw an interesting approach using like 1/4" cable to weave a net bag around the . That would be difficult to cut because it isn't rigid and moves with a reciprocating blade. Looking under my Ram I didn't see an easy way to do it though.

They’d be disappointed to only find out mine have been gutted lol.

One of my coworkers got the cat converter stolen off his '22 Ram yesterday at work in the middle of the day. I park literally 3 spaces away. Video footage captured them parked at a corner of the lot scoping cars and waiting for the moment. It took them 7 minutes to take it off the truck and be off the property. Freaking sucks that this crap happens.

I'm thinking of doing some kinda thick metal plate to bolt or weld to the frame. I don't have access to any thick metal or any welding equip though.

Any updates on any of you all that have installed an anti-theft do-hicky? Or any more ideas?

All I’ve seen are cages made out of rebar, steel plate shields, and some cable cage setups that cost more than a replacement cat. I’d say the best prevention is a 2wd lowered to where they can’t get under it.

I got rid of my cats and just welded some pipe to reconnect the gap so i aint gotta worry about it plus i live in flawda ill trow you in a lake with a broken leg so a gator gets you if you try to steal from me

I am taking my grandson on an ATV tour through out 4 states. Being so far from home and not familiar with the area, I was thinking of having my catalytic removed, straight piped, and then reinstalled when we get back home. Does anyone see a problem with this? I have a 2013 Ram sport 4X4.

Why?

As long as your not overnighting in Chicago, NYC, Detroit or Los Angeles I wouldn’t give it a thought. Besides I’d be more worried about having my ATV jacked before the cats.
