I just got a 2022 Ram 1500 v6 quad cab with less than 2000 miles on it. While I have had a couple work trucks carrying a lot of weight; I have never had a pickup truck as my pleasure vehicle. I have a question about the ride. When driving on a rough road, or going over a bump or railroad tracks, the rear wheels seem to bounce or reverberate; is this normal? Having mostly cars or suvs, this is fairly annoying.

I would start by checking/lowering the tire pressure, it's probably high. Generally speaking, with an empty bed you've got a bit less weight over the rear axle than you've had in previous vehicles.

I have owned many pickups over the years and I haven't had one yet that didn't have a rear axel dance on rough roads or or when crossing railroad tracks or any similar road surface. Make sure the tires are not overly inflated and keep the suspension in new shape. Slow down.

Throw a few hundred pounds in teh bed and see if that settles it down, if so,...well, there is a reason folks say, "Rides like a Lumber wagon!".
When empty, trucks can get bouncy over rough roads.

Hey guys, thank you for your posts. I will check the tires to see where they are at and add weight in the back. I had a couple hundred pounds back there but it was a short trip. I do tow my 16ft fishing boat with it and it does a great job with that but not much weight impact. Thanks again.

The sticker on my truck calls for 39 lbs cold, all tires. I keep the rears at 34. Makes a big difference, and the tires are riding even on the tread, instead of mostly in the middle like they did. Mine are 20's, so your pressure may be different.

My ‘17 would sometimes hop a bit on a bump empty. Definitely ride better with weight in it. My ‘22 has air setup and ride is night and day, no hop. Can’t speak to non air for gen 5. Recently rode in colleagues F150 that was an empty brick and I could feel the rear hopping from the passenger seat! It’s normal for most trucks on rough road.

Mine were at 80 also. It was a horrible ride back from the dealership.
Mine had 60 from dealership and it rode very nice, I've tried other air settings an feel 60 psi in the front is the lowest I'm willing go empty, will be trying 50-55 psi rear after my trip next weekend.

Weird right? TMPS was happy with it Without warnings but I didn’t get it when I did my first pressure check. Lesson learned to always check pressures after any service on the tires. Trust no one Except your own tire Gage display.

I run all four at 60-65 that way when I hook up the TT I don't have to change anything.

My '08 2500, as stated on driver's doorjam calls for 60 psi for the front tires and 70 psi for the rear tires for maximum loaded truck bed and/or when towing heavy trailer. But for UNloaded truck, it calls for 60 psi front and 45 psi rear.

Maybe either the tech who did the PDI on the truck used the max pressure posted on the tires or probably didn't know what pressure to use, asked someone in the shop or probably even a sales person at that dealership who must've told him "Bring 'em up to 80 and it'll be fine". Just saying...

I was once told that they over inflate the tires at the factory to perform the 1/8 mile rattle test as they leave the assembly line. Then another said it was because some sit for long periods either in staging areas, car carriers, or on dealers' lots.

Tire air pressure is on the delivery checklist before releasing to the customer. Yet I had one truck delivered to me with 50 lbs. in one tire.
