Truck only has 3200 miles on it. Came out to truck to start after sitting for several hours and the dash lights up like a Christmas tree. I tried restarting a couple times with no luck. At that point it was still drivable just annoying with the windshield wipers going and can not turn off. No turn signals, brights, collision system not active and no park assist. Made it the 8 miles home babying it. Got home shut it of and turned back on and it was fine. To day I get in an it was fine at first (just check eng light) I have the older ODBMX so I could not check codes or reset. Shut it off to fill up and turned back on to the same lights etc. This time it would not shift out of first gear. Pulled over and the only tool I had with me was a Leatherman. Removed the negative a bit since I could not get enough leverage for the nut on the positive. I was able to make it home (I pulled the fuse for the wipers). Disabled the positive side for 30 min and still the same thing. I have the MX+ coming in the morning to check codes.

The OBDLink MX should be able to read the codes just like the MX+, you might need to update the firmware (can do this using the OBDLink app).
As for resetting the codes, it's most likely due to the Security Gateway that Ram starting using since the '18 model year. There is bypass modules available to allow the OBDLink to "write" to the truck.

something to check that's been troublesome for some trucks, there was a large wiring connector inside the frame rail by the driver's front tire That would come slightly apart as it wasn't fully latched from the factory.

This is a problem for the dealer.

If you start ******** around with it, it could become a bigger problem for YOU.

Your best course of action is to take it in, have them diagnose and repair, and then, crucially, add all of this information to your truck's record. This way, when there's electrical gremlins down the road, the tech can look back on this episode, see what was done, and recheck quickly and then move on with diagnostic work.

Plus, it's all free.

The larger thing is, if this turns into something where it needs to get bought back, this all documented through the repair record on your truck.

It was the weekend, so the dealer was closed. It is our only vehicle so I was just checking if it was something common. So the dealer never returned my call today to see if it was safe to drive there. My bypass cable came in today so I was able to view codes and clear them. Restarted and only light on was the check engine, everything else was normal. Turn it off after a 5 mile drive and when restarted I have the same issue but only code U0212 and drives normal. If I try and reset it, it comes right back, so I will drop it off in the morning.

Interesting - U0212 is a network code for Lost Communication With Steering Column Control Module.

I can see this creating trouble with the ABS, traction control, and stability control, however in and of itself it should not cause a limp mode.

The big kicker is that it IS a network code, and with my scan tool, it would show every module - and a lot of them on CAN B should show a loss of communication with the SCCM.

From experience, I have seen these sorts of codes either be a bad wire somewhere, OR a loss of power and/or ground.

The fact that it comes back immediately is actually fantastic news. That means it's still broke, and if the guy who works on it is worth a damn, he'll figure it out pretty quick.

Tech found SCCM offline and no voltage to it. Swapped cable to another port on the Star Can buss connector and it came on. Part#68321746AA was then replaced and seems to be fine.

On the way there after warmed up it started doing some weird shifting on the way to dealer so I do not think I was in limp mode but rather the gear selector intermittent communications from the CAN buss.

Thanks for updating! Interesting that the canbus connector failed - and a clever diagnostic approach by the tech. I know a LOT of guys (many who call me for diagnostic work) would gloss that over in a heartbeat.

That sort of canbus junction is common in German cars, by the way - that's hints of old Daimler Chrysler there!

You're likely correct about the gear selector freaking out due to intermittent communication. The other possibility is, depending on exactly HOW that junction failed, if it was sending garbage data over the network it would freak out the truck pretty good. (It's amazingly easy to get garbage data - if the CAN+ and CAN- happen intermittently short to each other, it'll send garbage data and all the modules will get pissed off)
