Good morning all, my question is, will I continue to have issues with my hemi? Right now I’m at 64k and the manifolds are being replaced, I’m have some electrical issues and now I’m worried about the dreaded lifter/cam failure. I take care of my truck, change the oil at 4k and use penzoil ultra platinum 5w/20 with a Napa gold filter. I’m scared that it will leave stranded. I’m your opinions, am I okay or just being paranoid lol

Time to buy a new truck! LOL. Or stop reading cam/lifter forum posts.

Seriously, if those things keep you up at night, you might want to be driving something brand new. That's the best way to reduce your risk. The short answer is nobody knows. They'll never know. Even if a mechanic took the engine apart and one lifter has a slightly looser roller ...can they say for sure it would have failed prematurely? Nope. My truck has 171k mi on it ...the engine could go this afternoon ...or 5 years from now. I have a GM truck that has 270k mi on it. Runs great. Will it run great 6 months from now? IDK. Some guys on this forum have had well north of 250k milies on their Hemi's. Others have not been so fortunate. So the answer is, nobody can say.

Besides cam/lifters, the other items you listed are not with the engine itself. The manifolds are part of the exhaust, and electrical is ..well, electrical. Most vehicles have some weak points. And then you have the things you just can't plan on ...like a rodent climbing up and chewing a couple wires (I've had it happen) and they're hard to locate. At first a person might be inclined to blame the truck or Stellantis. There's just no telling all the things that can go wrong on a machine with 10 thousand or more parts and miles of wiring, and being exposed to years of bumps/rain/salt/dirt/heat. It's a marvel of modern engineering and manufacturing they operate as reliably as they do! One thing for sure is, as time goes on, items will wear, items will fail.

manifold bolts breaking is a known issue, if fixed correctly, shouldn’t have the issue again. Lifter cam issue ? My big decision wil be what to replace with. Most likely something that adds a little performance boost should the small chance this issue occurs. Electric, most likely a loose ground. Can’t think of another modern vehicle that isn’t full of electronics, all with potential issues.

I don't care what vehicle you drive troubles will come, it is written in a book somewhere, nope not the owners manual. Get a uoa, it will reveal how heavy your internals are wearing. Lubegard biotech is some insurance as molybdenum is gonna help that lifter to rise. You mentioned oil, but shelf oil doesnt help metal to rise in the case of lifter tick, that is the function of additives that stay on the surface of metals function, not the base oil. If you have tick if anything else, ram forum has proven those oils do not have adequate additives to keep that metal rising w/o tick. Heavy additives will in most ram trucks with hemi tick. real the hemi tick threads, but also the amazon reviews, engines across the board lose that tick at a high level.

Some of the best advice in this thread - just drive it is the message I am hearing. I too can get sucked in by forums and countless YouTube videos of issue upon issue (for me it’s DPF issues) but like others have said - drive your ride. You never know when you will get sick. The same applies for the trucks we enjoy.

OP, are you under any kind of warranty? Probably some third party warranty if you bought it used might not give you an issue but if you don't have any factory warranty or the Mopar MVP warranty, run a 5w30 Redline, Amsoil SS or Schaeffers 9000 Supreme engine oil in it with a Fram XG2, Royal Purple or Wix XP filter. Lots of members swear by a lot of what I mentioned. I don't think I'd recommend that PUP, especially in 5w20. Sure, it's much better than the OE semi-synthetic they put in at the factory or at the dealer unless otherwise specified but I wasn't impressed with it. I'm currently running Mobil 1 5w20 Extended Performance but that's only because I had to use something while I was waiting on the UOA on the Shaeffers to come back but with over 300PPM of moly, that's what I'm more than likely gonna stick with and I do have lifetime warranty.

Not like a seized lifter can stand you. You can drive thousands of miles before the lobe wears far enough for a misfire

OP, if you listen to the forums you will go nuts. 99.9 of people on forums came to find solutions to problems and opinions. Very few came to life’s great and they love the vehicle with no problems.

Do what the owners manual states and enjoy life. Don’t get sucked into the motor oil discussions. You may end up creating a problem by not using what the engine was designed for.

Have a great day and enjoy your truck.

The 3rd generation hemi, with some modifications over the years, has been in production continuously for right at 20 years now. Considering it's sold in multiple cars, trucks, and SUVs across multiple product lines just think of the sheer number of those motors that have been produced. It doesn't matter if hundreds of people on this forum complain about an issue, hundreds is a rounding error. It's a very solid motor and I wouldn't sweat about it in the slightest, regardless of what forums say. Forums are full of the hundreds of people who complain, not the hundreds of thousands who have no problems at all.

2015 Express, 5.7, Quad cab, 4x4, Rambox, 8Spd, Dial a gear, no mods, basic full synthetic oil and filter at whichever jiffy/Valvoline place was closest, oil changed when the dash indicator tells me to, nothing fancy, had the manifold bolts replaced under warranty when they started making noise. 109,000 miles, transmission still solid, engine still quiet, MDS still active. I've heard all the nightmares, and havent experienced any of them yet. Just drive it!
