I've looked into setting my idle speed, apparently HP Tuners is the only way to go and thats a high entry price. First you need to get your ECU unlocked by sending it away(?) (so your truck is dead for a few weeks while that gets shipped around), then you need to purchase the software and a special cable just for FCA trucks, then you need to know what you're doing within the software too.

It's not a quick/painless thing to try, or I'd have done it already.
You can buy another PCM to send away,as long as it's a compatiable used pcm, that way it's just a matter of swapping pcm's,and your truck isn't down for a couple weeks waiting for your factory pcm to be unlocked and returned. If all you want to do is raise the idle rpm,and maybe open up the speed limiter, and you don't want to mess with the stock tune parameters,a Diablo is probably you're better choice,as it's fairly user friendly in regards to just raising the idle rpm,if you were going to tune it and do a few mods to it down the road, then HP Tuners is the better option by far.

I had one my brother had two, the only reason he bought the second was to get a manual, the only reason I sold mine was to get an auto, lol. Super popular trucks and smooth as glass operating. 2002-2006 I do believe if you ever want to test drive one.

Thanks, do you know if diablo is compatible with Tazer DT? I bought my tazer when I bought my morimoto headlights since I have to change my country code to USA to disable the daytime running lights.

Kind of concerned that these 2 "tuners" might clobber eachother?

Use a high Moly oil such as Redline 5W30 or an additive such as Lubegard Biotech in the oil if you don’t want to spend Redline money. Also if you live somewhere it doesn’t get particularly cold definitely use 5W30 instead of 5W20.

WHAT!!!!!

5w30 and 5W20 are both 5W!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That i don't know,as i've never used a Tazer on anything, but i'd think you should be able to use both.Hopefully somebody will know for sure if the 2 are compatiable.

Yep - those were the pre-Tier IV engines. I got the Yanmar EPA version in my tractor (1.1L). Extremely reliable and fuel efficient for a reasonable price.

Can't be having that anymore.

Also if you live somewhere it doesn’t get particularly cold definitely use 5W30 instead of 5W20.
5w20 and 5w30 oils both have the same viscosity index of 5. As an example, Mobil 1 5w20 has a pour point (according to the ASTM D97 test) of -36 centigrade, Mobil 1 5w30's pour point is -42C. Pour point is where the oil stops flowing as the containing vessel is tipped. Similar PPs in both cases. The operational weight or kinematic viscosity tested at 40C and 100C (ASTM D445) is the 20 or 30. It's a common confusion point but 5w20 and 5w30 have essentially the same viscosity cold.

Hello everyone, I am currently having my truck fixed of a lifter issue, along with a messed up camshaft from it. Any tips of preventing this from happening again? I’ve heard idle as less as possible, change oil frequently 4000 miles intervals. Now oil I use is a mopar filter and pennzoil full synthetic 5w20 high mileage. My truck has 150k atm. If y’all recommend anything that could help prevent it from happening again I’m all ears
If it is not too late, have them install the hellcat oil pump..."high volume" oil pump, not high pressure.

While your experience is most unfortunate, the 80% claim is a pretty wild exaggeration.

You are correct. I should have been more specific. Based on mine and the fleet of Chargers and Durangos in our county Sheriff's Dept. That wild exaggeration can probably be adjusted down some for the general population.
Blessings

Why ? the HC oil pump isnt any better in our 5.7 the issue is the low idle. And if he's getting his truck worked on at the stealer**** they will be putting all the same factory MDS junk back in anyway.

On my 6.4L build I will be using the HC oil pump but that engine needs it due to the oil squirters.

Lots of post about this as well on the FB HiPo ram page.

Even when I did my cam swap, I was told by the guys who actually build engines on a daily basis that the OEM 5.7L pump is perfectly fine once the idle is bumped up. on my 6.4L build I will be using the HC oil pump because of the oil squirters.

The hellcat oil pump delivers a higher volume of oil, which is required at low idle. It is not a high pressure pump, just high volume....more oil. Bumping the idle speed up is not a cure all, that is just a poor temporary fix. The hellcat oil pump is better than stock 5.7.

Poor Fix ? Ive now heard it all today... lol...

Now I have to call FRP and tell him to stop bumping idle speeds :321:

And I guess Matt from moe's was also spreading all sort of misinformation as well on HI Po FB group when he told me to keep my factory pump.

I am sorry i got pulled into this conversation with the witless. Ignore and move on I guess.
Not to worry, some people on this site speak before thinking. You can tell from some of their posts how witless they really are. I have ignored them already.

Turn the idle speed up, how ridiculous that idea is. That is just a band-aide instead of an actual fix.

It is one of the band-aids that does appear to work. Now that there's a few trucks running around with the Hellcat pump,it's not panning out as well as alot of guys were thinking it would. If the whole idea of the hellcat pump is to bump oil pressure at idle, turning the idle rpm up to 700 or 750 accomplishes the same thing, plus throws more oil onto the cam lobes and lifter rollers, helping to keep them lubricated better.
