Totally personal preference depending on use.
There is also the legality of it that can vary state to state but most say no tint below the AS1 line that is on the windshield. So if there's heavy enforcement like in my state it's not worth the summons.

35 will be way too dark for windshield.

Most places it's illegal for any time in windshield, including the top as1 section. 2018 I believe was when OEM stopped tinting tops of windshields because it's now illegal in many places.

That might be a Canadian thing. The OP is from GA in the US. There are only 3 states that don't permit the upper part of the windshield and GA is not one of them.

I did above the AS1 line on mine in 5%. Thought about doing 35% on the lower section, it might not appear too tinted if the top strip is darker. Just a thought.
The top strip helps a lot when the sun gets low in the winter months.

Go with 50% first , it's plenty dark but light enough in the daytime to not catch the attention of cops ... knock on wood but so far I haven't been stopped by cops for my 5% all around and the 50% up front and I have had cops drive by next to me and the cops sitting on the road with their guns catching people who are speeding .... as long as you don't speed at least in my area they don't mess with you if you have tinted windows ...

Sounds like any degree of tint will help you…l

Is your Ram lifted? Don’t think most would notice, nor care about the ‘upper’ windshield area. Can’t see that high anyways if it is.

Keep in mind the primary concern with ‘tinting’ is that the Officer needs to see inside and the driver….. for SAFETY. Which is why if you ever get pulled over….. lower all windows, shut off the vehicle, and don’t be an ass :waytogo:

Mine are tinted, and never have had an issue with it.

Go for it :waytogo:

I've got 50% on all my cars windshields.

Huge difference in glare and heat rejection. My wife's pacifica with that huge windshield is a major difference.

I wouldn't suggest darker than 50%. Below is my cayman with 50% on front, 20% sides - and my truck, same 50% front, 20% on front sides.

I run all ceramic 35% on the windshield with a double layer of 5% for an eyebrow and 5% on all the other windows.

Love it in summer heat here in Arizona. I also never have any issues driving at night, your eyes adjust to it just like any other low light situation.
I used to run tinted visors on my helmet when I rode street bikes to cut down on the glare at night, so I think I might just be used to it at this point.

I agree with Cheech 50% is probably the way to go if you have never had tint like this before.

Also, when you get the tint ticket, that is on you haha. Been there, done that.

Plus you can get an extra 20-30% on top of that if you decide you want it darker ..

I also have the ceramic tint, love it in the summer ..... so much cooler and less glare at night as well ....

That is exactly what I did when I first did the tint on my truck. I went with the legal limit in Az all around, and it was like I was sitting in a fishbowl. Ended up adding multiple layers of tint.

Finally when I needed to have my windshield replaced I had them pull all the tint and redo it to what I have now with a single layer.

One other thing to add, I had my windshield done when I had the glass replaced. So you can not see the edge of the tint, that is a dead giveaway if you ever get pulled over. So make sure they do a good job, or wait until you need some new glass to have the windshield done.

I put ceramic tint on front, think it was 50% can't remember. And on the front sides, matched with factory back doors.
For me anyway, and I think Cheech mentioned this above. At night it took little to get use too.
I drive on highway mostly. It helps with glare from other cars/trucks lights.

I'm in Ontario, Canada and it's not legal to do front or front windows. I've been fined 3 times; Lawyer went to court had them dismissed. Said it was factory installed and they couldn't prove it wasn't.
Not a big deal. but you might want to check your state laws. If that bothers, you.

I have astigmatism so I can actually get window tint tickets thrown out ... my eye doctor said the process for a legal waiver is a lengthy one and if I ever get a ticket just take it to him and he would get it thrown out and start the process ...

There are more and more States that are now allowing window tint for medical reasons, but you have to go through hell to get it lol ...

I can't see at night, blind as a bat, but if I didn't have the windshield tinted the astigmatism would be increased by a lot, the tint helps reduce it and I can drive without being blinded by any kind of lights at night ... everything looks blurry, like its behind water and thus it intensifies the blinding blurs I see ....sucks!

The State you're living in has laws as to how dark the windshield can be. The front windows, driver and passenger, could not be darker than 35%. The back windows and rear windshield could be dark but not exceed 5%. Each US state has it guidelines. Just be aware of them.

I worked for a time for a window tint supply company in Dallas.
The installers would come in and purchase 70% Ceramic Clear for the windshield. I asked them why. The answer was often, it the customer wants a dark tint on the front windshield, I'll do but the customer has to provide me a waiver and disclaimer. I do not want to be sued for installing an illegal tint.

The results of the 70% Ceramic Clear were less heat and UV rays on the dash, and the dashboard, steering wheel, center console, and leather seats were not blazing hot. The biggest benefit was passing inspection. Every vehicle with 70% Ceramic Clear did not have a problem. Those who tried the 50% well....

You can do what you want and pay wherever fines you may receive. Best to be safe than out-of-pocket dollars.

You guys that tint your windshields are Nutz!

I have a medical background, and am over 60. The amount of light transmittance through my eye is greatly diminished compare to a 50, 40, 30, 20 year old. It is progressive and effects 100% of the population. It is a steep decline from 20 years on and it is affecting everyone on this board. It has to do with pupil diameter as we age. Mainly referring to dark adaptation. A 20 year old may have an 8mm pupil in a dark room. As we age this dilation progressively decreases because out iris muscles just quit working as well. You really notice it badly at 50-60 and on. My Dad was always going on about having to use a Flashlight under the hood of the car during the day to look at things. I now understand what he was going on about. Since 60 my flashlight collection has gotten impressive. You can slide by in your 20's and 30s. Over that, you're just plain nutz. By 60, you will no longer like to drive at night, trust me on this. And that is with a "clear" windshield.

I tried to find an article/graph that showed this well to non medical folks and really couldn't find one that did well. Cataracts, astigmatism, Floaters, visual acuity, etc only make this problem worse. We all don't have cataracts, or other visual problems. But we all have this pupil size slide problem as we age. Starts at age 20 or so.

100% agree, just make sure you can see through your windows with whatever you choose. I have younger eyes, so I feel fine with my setup.
I have tried a few different brands too and one thing I have noticed is that the VLT% is not consistent between brands. I am not trying to pursuade anyone to go and get dark tint like I have. But, I do like my dark tint. Your mileage may vary and your preference will surely be different from mine. Keep it safe first and foremost.
And before you tell me mine is not safe, you gotta sit in my truck and try it out. Yes it's dark, but I can see everything I need to see.

That does shed some ‘light’, lol, on why old people can’t see Sh&t and shouldn’t be driving .

You know what they say…. ‘ if you don’t like what you see…. turn off the lights’. :favorites13:
