Bed light question

I have not opened my tail gate at night for a bit but last night I noticed my bed lights no longer automatically come on when opening my tailgate.I can turn them on however from the switch on my instrument panel so they do work but only if I push the switch they do turn on along with my cargo light this never used to be the case.Not sure what went wrong it’s not a major thing but just curious if anyone has any thoughts on this.They used to come on and go off automatically whenever I opened my tailgate without having to hit the switch but this is no longer the case.

The trigger switch might be stuck or there is corrosion in it ... take a look at it, clean it up and put some dielectric grease if you find that it was dirty or corroded ....

Mine don't come on when opening the tailgate. They come on with the dome light and courtesy light when you unlock it, but not with the tailgate itself.

I don't know what year yours or his are but my 2018 when you open the tailgate the lights go on ...

After thinking for a bit ....

Wait ... now that I am thinking about it, the lights might not go on when I drop the tailgate lol ... I am going to check it out tomorrow as the truck is already in the garage .....

I believe the bed lights only operate with the switch on the dash tgat xontrola the top cargo light. I added a set of LED light strips under each bed rail. It's got a separate switch that works independently from the factory bed lights. I have them wired into the trailer harness via an aftermarket harness so the factory wires don't get cut to be spliced in.

Yeah, I know they turn on with the switch from the rear driver side and the dash switch now that I am thinking about it lol ... going to check tomorrow on my truck

Mine is a 2017 and they used to turn on automatically when dropping the tailgate without hitting the button in my cab they no longer turn on though without hitting the button in my cab!

Mines a 2018 as well. The manual mentions only that the lights can be turned on with the switch in the bed or dash and for about a minute as part of the illuminated entry feature.

There's no switch to tell the truck the gate is open.
