trying to replace the existing 5v USB in my 2018 tradesman with newer dual port QC3 + PD something like this https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B095YSDCCR

when I pulled the console apart, I thought it be straight swap but the OEM plug looks like it gets routed behind the console and then goes off another 2 wires.

do I just disconnect the old OEM, and tap the 2 wires? would I need to install the inline fuse that was include with the new plug?

Thanks for any advise offered, I tried to search if this was already done but couldn't find much about existing USB plugs but swapping out 12v plugs.

I know this was posted awhile ago but I’m in the middle of swapping all of mine out now. You shouldn’t need the inline fuse.

I also wanted to ask you a question. Did I read somewhere that you 3D printed a faceplate for a 5th gen media hub? Was it for an early console or the 2018+ version? I’m swapping in a 2016 console into my 2019 and Looking into the 5th gen hub.

Still trying to figure out how to replace this stupid USB charger on the dash console for the 2018 to a newer better charger. I did the rear door panel ones by tapping in to the window switch.

I did 3D Printer a faceplate for the 5th gen hub in to a 2018 arm rest console used PLA+ fliament and deathbyburrito's design https://www.ramforum.com/threads/ua...-general-with-usb-c-ports.184092/post-2623872. It held up for a bit but the heat is getting to it a bit and deforming it, plus my cutting skills sucked when I tried to get it to fit right.

I grabbed his design as well but mines a console out of a 2016. I’m working on making one to fit that version of the console but this is my first time using CAD software and it’s going pretty slow. I’m also waiting on the actual media hub before I can continue any further.

@DoughRat19 how did your hub workout for you?
I think it came out alright. As far as the other ports. I swapped in a center console so I kind of lost the ports under the radio. They both actually wire into ports in the console now. But here are some pictures of the new ports installed as well as the hub.

Finally took a risk and traced the wiring some more on IP USB port. Turns out, it just looks to plug in to the same plug as the Cig plug on the back. Was able to get access to it from the glove box.1667580037420.png

I used T-taps to splice new USB plug.. somehow after the taps were in and I plugged in the new USB port, it didn't work. I tried the orginal usb port, it also didn't work. I checked to see if Cig plug works.. and it does.. so I splice that one.. and the USB ports work.. (F93 [20Amp Yellow Micro2])

Turns out I blew the FUSE (incase you need to know.. on 2018.. it's F104 [20Amp Yellow Micro2])

now I just need to decide
A) replace existing plug with new plug
B) install new plug in glove box area
C) keep behind dash to safeguard usb cables?

Edit to include this link here as the thief stole my owners manual

You could run it to the lower glove box pretty easily?

here is a better picture of the taps I did with the over view of the the glove box removed.

New discovery today after replacing the fuse.. This line is always on. Draws power even after the power is cut.. so I need to re-think my tap.

Also, the new plug wouldn't fit in the glove box nicely mounted as there are no room available for it to properly sit.

Lastly, does anyone know what these are?

I always seem to hear some kind of compression noise when I'm in the truck with it not running.. finally saw this white lever move when it happened.. and it's the the only one that's does it but the only one I was able to see.

I believe they are blend door motors/actuators.
