I am the person who originally reported the problem to the NTSB. FCA kept my truck for about 6 months while they created the bracket fix and used my truck as the test bed. I would recommend hat you file a complaint with NTSB as the fix should have addressed both front and back. It is disappointing to hear that the fix was only for the front (it was the front that dropped in my truck).

I have a 2014 with only 66k and live in New England. Yesterday going over a speed bump with a full tank the front strap disconnected. Other than some surface rust the strap looks OK but the T pulled out of the frame.

I see the recall but haven't found a version for anything post 2012. My vin shows no open recall on the NTSB site.

I'm going to call the dealer tomorrow but has anybody had this fixed at no cost on a post 2012?

Having to swap a strap is one thing. Needing to remove a tank with 32 gallons is going to be a PITA.

Maybe contacting ramcares could help.

This whole recall is because of a design flaw in the frame. The mounting bracket for the strap has NO DRAIN HOLE for water to drain out. It's like a little pocket where water sits there. The HD trucks have a drain hole molded into the pocket but the 1500s do not. I carefully drilled a 1/8" hole in the pockets to allow for drainage and then saturated them with Fluid Film. I live in New England on the coast and mine are still solid.

So anyone that lives where salt is thrown down at first sign of snow I would recommend checking all 4 of these pockets...

Good luck. The strap on my 2013 failed in January and I can't even get Ram to respond to me.

The X57 warranty extension applies to 2009-2018 DS(1500) trucks. If your trucks not under the recall it will be covered by the warranty extension.

Yes, on my 2015 Ram 1500 QC Sport.

Over Memorial Day I was up in the Adirondacks and had the front strap fail (popped at the mount), with a full 33 gals of fuel on-board. Luckily there is a Ram Dealer only 20 miles away, drove there Friday afternoon (before Memorial weekend) not expecting much to get done, especially since the dealer was scheduled to be closed over the long weekend.

Not only did they get me in, they had the parts in stock (they replaced both front & rear straps/mounts) and had done by 10 am Tuesday morning. Also, had a free loaner car for the full weekend. Dealer, IMO, went above and beyond to fix this, though it should never had been an issue to begin with.

I had the recall taken care of in 2019. Immediately after, & for every fill (always using the auto-stop filling feature), I had gas spurting out of the as it stopped. Typically a cup or more. Took four trips in to get it solved... now it is happening again SMH! They initially changed the filter but that was not the issue. Anyone else experience this?

My front strap broke off this morning. However, I see the recall is only for regular cabs, huh? I have a 2012 Laramie and do goes my luck.

It’s not just for regular cabs. The original U04 recall applies to all 2009-2012 DS trucks within the required build dates. Doesn’t matter what cab configuration.

They showed the problem & showed how to correct it

Sorry to open an old topic, but I am blocking a two lane highway because my front strapped broke as I was driving and fell against my driveshaft. Have some time to kill while the cop behind me blocks traffic waiting for the tow truck. I can see the T still on the bracket. It’s a 2014, is this under any other recall besides the one one for up to 2012 or maybe an extended warranty?

You would be covered under the x57 extension.

for rust belt area ...the design of the gas tank strap is wrong..its too thin and just rusts away and then falls apart...

the strap should be made out of stainless steel...problem solved.

It's not the strap that rots, it's the mount on the frame that rots out because there's no drain hole in it. Water/sand/salt collects in there and every time it gets wet there's nowhere for the water to go so it just rots the metal out. I drilled holes in all 4 of my gas tank mounts and saturated it with Fluid Film, so far my 10 year old truck has solid mounts.
