In PA you can only tint down to the AS1 line. Not sure how dark that can be but know you can't go below that

I had the windshield tinted to reduce heat in the cab. The tint is almost clear and it can reject almost as much radiant heat as the darker tints. It doesn't look as cool, but it works. In our state, possibly many others, if you get a note from your eye care Dr. you can legally tint your windows a little darker.

FWIW- In Texas, you can't have any windshield tint below the AS-1, even with a doctor's note, and it's easy to spot. Above the AS-1 is 25% VLT or more. Left and right of the driver 25% VLT or more. Anything behind the driver can be as dark as you want.
I submit that the tint law has everything to do with safety of the motoring public. 5% tint in Texas at 2PM in August is great, but that same tint at 11:30PM in the rain isn't safe.

What! how is 5% not safe at 11:30 pm in the rain ? ....
The tint law is a joke ... I see police vehicles with 5% tint all the time, they just want to be able to see inside your vehicles without actually having to get in there as soon as they approach ... tons of videos of cops shooting at unarmed victims .... tons of videos of people with no tint getting into accidents during the rain ....
They also want the money from tickets they issue for tint ... dahfawkouttaheah with that everything to do with safety lol ...

I have good vision, like 20/15 last time it was checked. (No clue what that means but they said its good)
However, I have always had a bad sensitivity to lights at night, It looks like there are rays of light blasting out in all directions from the light source. I usually use yellow tinted glasses to reduce blue light but the glare or rays is still there.
I think I'm also part moth because I end up slowly veering towards the lights. I have to focus on the white line on the shoulder if a car is coming.
Due to this, I don't drive at night unless I have to or its a short distance.
When I replace my windshield I'm going to tint the whole thing in 25% and then tint over that on the top strip with 5%
I know its illegal but if it keeps me (and you) alive I'm going to do it.

I might of mentioned this to you, but what you is called astigmatism , at night I am the same, I see the same glares from oncoming traffic the worse ... red lights look like they got smeared all over my windshield lol ... during the day I can't be outside without sunglasses at all .... I started this afer I was in an accident where I flew right out of a windshield ... now my neck is all fawked up, my nose was broken to the point I am not having to get surgery for my septum being deviated lol ... my sinuses are all jacked up ....
So no, tint is no more an accident risk that having no tint ...

Days like today when it's cold I don't feel lucky lol ... I messed up my c5, c6 and c7 on my neck ... part of my nose and the orbit of my eye is missing so I get sinus infections all the time ...
We hit a telephone pole going at least 75 mph ... one of our friends died in that accident, the only one who had his seatbelt on ... ruptured his spleen and other organs, his parents didn't allow the surgeons to give him a blood transfusion because he was a Jehovah's witness ... by the time they realized they didn't want to lose their son because of that they were minutes late ....
But yeah, lucky to some point Bro, always think about that night and because of that I have PTSD lol ... when I am passenger you know I am hitting that brake pedal lol!!!!

I am in Canada and they don’t like tint
I am pushing 80 and have a left eye that has always had a runny pupil, so light bothers it but right still good
Years ago I put a dark tint on my big tractor, it was great during the day.
But at night it was terrible, so I pealed it off , but left the top 1/3 on
I did have my eyes done a few years back , turned out veg.

everything I have seen says any darkness to a max of 3", then 70% on the rest windshield. Most tint places will only normally go down to the AS1 line, which is way farther than 3".

Good move. I do my sides to match the rear in 20%, and always do my windshied at 35%. 50% is lighter and may be a good move if you're sensitive to seeing at night, but I've always been happy with 35%. Most tint shops will not recommend going darker than 35 on a windshield.

I did 50% over all the windows. I can tell my front window is tinted at night but barely. It’s perfect for me. With the windows up during the day you can’t really tell the front is tinted from outside because the sides are darker and it makes the front look clear. Once you open the windows you can tell it’s tinted
