Failed lifters and chewed camshafts are known issue.
Any honest service dept mgr will tell you so.
I know a ****pile of them. Plenty of GSM's too.

Turning 60 and do think you are a kid?

Your mother is much nicer than mine.
I am 60 and any conversation, with my Mom, will have a "You Kids" in it somewhere. Occasionally, a "Damn Heathens" too.

Hemi Mechanic talks about that tick.

I bought a new RAM Rebel a few years back. It was going to be my "retirement" truck. About two months in, it developed a "clunk". Dealer couldn't find it, and I wasn't willing to live with it, so I traded it away. Fast forward to a few months ago...I bought a seemingly well kept, but high mileage, 2009 RAM. A pavement princess.
The owner was forthright. He showed me the sealant around the third brakelight. It has rained like an sob recently and it's dry inside, so put that out of my mind. I had the need to hit the accelerator hard the other day, and the truck took off like a pistol shot. It's roomy, quiet, apparently some power. I've given it a couple of updates: new leather seat bottoms, Tesla style radio, back up camera. I set the seats for comfort or something. When I turn off the ignition, the seat moves backwards for more room to get out. Turn the key on, and the seat moves to programmed position.
I really like driving it!

That right there. That last little bit, is what makes it all worth while and, in Reality, dictated whether or not you got a 'Good Deal", when you bought it.

Everyone worries about how much off MSRP? Could I have paid less?

I worry about "Am I going to love this Truck?"
5, 10, 15 years from now.

Next to choosing the Right Life Partner, picking the Right Truck can truly define Ones happiness.

HEY< Did you see that? Life Partner?
Not a Hot Babe, who owns a Great Boat and has incredibly firm, large .....?

I'm Politically Correct!
Who in the World would ever have Thought That?

3rd Ram, first was a 1994 1500 that I drove for years with no problems. 2nd was 2003 that I just got rid of this year (parents had it for last 3) again ran great!. Couple of header bolts, and 2 front bearing hubs after 150,000 miles. Currently have a 2018 2500 running great, just a ABS sensor replaced under warranty. All trucks bought brand new. Had a Ford 2500 in 2001 and was the biggest piece of garbage, kept it less than year. Not saying all Ford's are but I won't have another. Ram forever!
I am a big fan of the older Fords. 1960 to early 70’s. Also a big fan of the older Power Wagons. I think they look better than any truck on the road.

I'll start off by saying I've owned vehicles from Ford, GM, and RAM over the years.

My 2003 Chevy Tahoe Z71 was likely my most reliable vehicle simply because I kept it for 10 years and put 299,000 miles on it. Outside of scheduled maintenance I had to rebuild the transmission and replace both front hub bearings. I don't think the tranny should have gone out, the hubs yes, typical wear items. Encouraged by the 2003 my wife got her a 2008 Tahoe LTZ, a horrible vehicle, constantly in for repairs.

We dumped the 2008 for a 2013 Equinox LTZ. The only issue was a cam solenoid covered by warranty.

The transmission failure on my 2003 got me thinking about a new vehicle and the terrible experience with the 2008 Tahoe and past Ford nightmares I made the jump to a RAM, never before did I ever wander out of the Ford/GM camp having been an employee of both.

I grabbed a 2013 RAM 1500 Hemi with the eight-speed ZF tranny. Two issues, one was the BCM had to be replaced (warranty) due to a door locking issue, and the oil pan had to be replaced due to delamination, I had to pay for that. Not happy, that simply should not happen. After 9 years of drama-free driving, I traded it in for a 2022 Longhorn 1500 ED. I've been driving the 2022 for 10 months and no issues, not even a squeak, rattle, or 12" screen issue.

I also picked up a 2015 Longhorn 3500 SWR with the Cummins powertrain for towing our Montana fifth-wheel RV and my 16-foot dump trailer. One issue with it, the truck has RAM's rear air leveling system and the compressor and right level sensor went out. Both promptly replace under warranty. I was going to replace this vehicle with 2023 but have since changed my mind, the MSRPs have gone way past what I had budgeted for.
I’ve seen 80 some thousand for a new truck. Has any went over 100K?

I had a 2012 that i traded in at 310K with a 5.7 Hemi that had both exhaust manifolds and broken bolts in the heads, replaced under warranty, which is all I ever had to do with it. I now have a 2018 with 121K and have had the Drivers Side exhaust manifold and bolts replaced, the starter motor replaced, and the radio replaced all under the MaxCare Warranty. Other than that it has been trouble free.
Wow! Hope mine lasts that long. My 2012 only has 60,000 miles so I’m happy to hear that.

I'm sure there are lots that have paid over $100K. Dealers would get HD's in, put lifts kits, wheels and other whizbang stuff on them, and sticker them well north of $100K. They sold them at asking prices too.

Not hard at all to get into the $80K MSRP range on a Limited or Limited Longhorn HD. Sticker on my 22 HD was $96K. I got it through Granger though, so got to knock more than $13K off of that.

My view is Rams are solid but we see so many threads in here with problems and i get it, you want to know what to do or vent.
Just want to see if this is widespread or more like what I've experienced.
I want to know who has a Ram and if you have had no problems or minimum issues. Just tell us how your truck has been for you.

One day I may want a newer Ram from my 2007 and want to know how the newer versions are doing compared to the trouble free Ram I have.

When I first got my current Ram, it had a ticking lifter around 2k miles but took it in and they replaced them all and hasn't had any Issues since.

I had a 1998 Ram before this one and again when I first got it, the main fuse went out while on the freeway. It shut off but I coasted to a offramp and into a parking lot. Can't remember if i had it towed to the dealer or if they came and got it but they replaced the fuse and no issues after. Traded it in for the 2007.

I had a 2000 Dodge, outside of transmission near the end of her life it was a solid truck. Until I lent it to my sister! I now have the 2021 warlock 16000 km in and one road trip. All the sensors are going off until it just shut down like it was dead. Had it in shop 2x they said a soder broke they fixed it . 200 km later all the electronics are malfunctioning again and it will go back in for a third time. I have my fingers crossed but my faith in services department is weak. When I called and said I have emails i was told they sometimes have daulty emails. Got in truck and verified the electronics are messed up. Winter now upon us and command start doesn’t work when your electronic lights go off. I just need my new beautiful red beast to toughen up!

Excellent video and you can tell he has seen a lot of all of the causes.

Here's my experience...
Bought a 2013 Laramie w/ 70k on the clock. Made it a total of 7 days until the intermittent ping showed up that the guy in the video talked about. Dealership said it was a pulley and that they would fix it even though I bought with no warranty. I had taken it to an independent mechanic for evaluation first as I thought the same thing. Dealership called me a day or two later with the bad news. New motor was needed and they would not fix it. The lifter problem had advanced to the critical stage.

So they had another one on the lot...2016 Sport w/41k equipped almost exactly the same but with the 8 speed auto and about the same cost. I took this one home that day and had it until the rear axle issue showed up. Seems it had been in a wreck that I knew about, but found out in the repair process [third party warranty covered] that the frame was bent and that the issue would show up again at some point. Loved that truck though.

Facing the recurring problem and knowing the warranty had bought would not cover it again, I took a tour through the lot and found the 2020 Rebel. First vehicle I have ever bought new[at 63 years old]! Wasn't ever going to do that but I had lost my good mechanic and was tired of working on vehicles I drove daily [35k per year].

Traded in the 2016 for the Rebel and bought a 7 year unlimited mileage warranty for it from Zeigler. Have had only three issues. Two broken valve springs [#1 @ 20k and #6 @ 56k] and a non functioning Rambox pushbutton on the driver's side. Both springs were fixed by warranty and the Rambox was attempted but never resolved. I still have their promise to fix it under their repair warranty and will get it done this year if I can. I just hit 80k miles on the new Rebel and love it more than either of the other two Rams. Still on the factory brake pads and I tow quite often up to 5k lumber loads on a 1500 lb trailer.

Would I trade it? Yeah but only for a new Rebel 2500!

Purchased truck with 12,000 miles. I’ve had to replace drivers side wheel bearing at 160,000 miles, a couple of u-joints at 170,000 miles. Replaced drive belt at 140,000. Fixed the third brake light gasket.......and that’s pretty much it. I just put gas in it and change the oil when it tells me to.
Aside from my kickass girlfriend my truck is the next most consistently awesome thing in my life
