Looking for actual owner feedback on the multi function tail (split) tailgate. Concept makes sense from ease of access, but durability is my concern. Want a tail gate to sit on at the end of the day and enjoy an adult beverage; and not have to worry about it opening up and dumping me on the ground. Can't find any at dealerships, or on existing 2021 models I see on the road. Maybe that's my answer right there!

I absolutely love mine. And it is plenty durable. I really think anyone that has it, would not want to return to the traditional tailgate.

I agree with above. I have it on my 2021 and love it. Didn't think much about it at first until I started to really use it on a regular basis. Being able to reach all the way inside the bed of the truck without having to get in really makes a difference.

As far as durability it seems to be really well built. Already had a few hundred pounds of bedroom furniture and mulch resting on the back without issue.

Following ... I just placed an order that includes the multi-function tailgate. I also could not find a local truck at a dealer that had this tailgate to test before I bought.

Likewise, have a truck on order with it. It's the feature I am most looking forward to after years of crawling under bed covers for things just out of reach.

We bought the wife's 2020 Limited with the MFT almost exactly a year ago, and we've had zero regrets about getting it. I've used it as a work bench, seating, bed extension, and haven't had any problems with the mechanical side of it. The tailgate closure is very secure. It won't open up on you when the tailgate is open in the traditional way. There was a small issue with the tailgate ajar warning when we first got it, but after a couple weeks it stopped happening. Dealer service advisor said it would go away with use, and they were right about that. I will be getting the MFT on my next truck too.

To all who have commented, thank you! Looks like I will have to order one from factory seeing as any dealer I've searched across four states didn't have any. I hope the semiconductor shortage won't delay delivery too much.

The Sterling Heights 5th Gen Ram 1500 assembly plant has not been affected by the chip shortage

5 other Stellantis plants are now closed until sometime in April, the 15th was mentioned

It is rated to 2000lbs - I have one and use it nightly as a seat. And with the air suspension it is easy to get on and off :)

That's not entirely true. The chip shortage affects the Blind Spot Monitoring system, so Ram has removed Blind Spot Monitoring from the 5th gen 1500 Laramie level 1 and Level 2 packages and reduced the price for each by $200. Renaming them Laramie Level A and Laramie Level B packages.

If it would have been available on the 2500, it would have been on my special order!

I like mine a lot as well. With a bad back it makes loading/unloading bags of mulch, potting soil, salt or our recumbent trikes easier. Worth the extra money and we have not had any problems with it. I have had the truck since last November but only have 3400 miles on it.

I purchased 2022 Ram Longhorn in May, my multifunction tailgait, causes wind noise, you can barely hear in the cab. I’ve had it to three different dealers…all have given me the same answer they don’t know what to do to rectify the problem. Has anyone else experienced the wind noise from the tailgat?

I have never noticed any wind noise from mine. It would have to be pretty loud to hear it up in the cab. Is you bed covered?

The cab in the Limited is super quiet. Cannot hear much of anything outside. I have a bed cover so I probably would not have wind noise anyway.

I've had my 2021 Limited Longhorn since Feb of 21. No regrets about ordering the MF Tailgate and no issues with it. The positives for me are 1. The ability to stand closer to the bed to reach stuff, 2. Can load heavy stuff directly onto the truck bed instead of on the tailgate,
3. When I have my camping trailer connected, I can partially open the 60% side and fully open the 40% side without it hitting the trailer tongue jack.

I wish they offered it on the HD lineup. My neighbor has it on his 1500 and I measured the width and it is not even close to my 3500. Too bad or I would order one too. :(

My dad has the MFT on his '20 and he loves it (as do I).

If they had it available for the '19 trucks it would have been a "must-have" on my list.

It really is a great design. More than 2.5 years with one and still loving it. We haven't noticed any wind noise from it. But we have a bed cover, which would help or even eliminate the wind noise problem for @DReeves.
