Been a member for almost 5 years and never thought starting a thread for my truck, lol.

Got the truck from my brother-in-law in 2017.

Being in Northern Ontario, the road salt does a lot of damage to vehicles. So I'm trying to fix the rusted areas economically.

Got a pair of silver fenders from a local wrecking yard really cheap. Just needed to remove the advertising paint and fix a few areas of surface rust. The fenders are still very solid.

A little lacquer thinner...

This year, the cargo box had to be changed. I noticed that the Back Rack was moving when I hit a bump and when I investigated, the front box mounts were completely rusted and not holding the box anymore. The box liner hid the damage.

Although it looks bad, the frame is still quite solid.

I took the loose rust off the frame and gave it a couple coats of DOM-16...canadian version of POR-15 and about half the cost. Also a few coats of paint on the areas exposed to the sun.

Was planning to travel to Southern Ontario to get a rust-free box from a business that hauls them from the States but noticed that the local auto wrecker just received a box from a wrecked 2008 Ram. This Ram was in an accident a few years ago and the box was replaced with a new OEM one. Plus I got the cap thrown into the deal. It's not silver, but the black matches the trim and seems to be ok.

Got the box installed with the help from my son.

And got the cap on today!!

Just need to install the fender flares and mud flaps.

Nice! I’m restoring a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7 4x4, same colour as yours. I too live in Northern Ontario. The truck I picked up here has no rockers and no cab corners. I have done the same thing as you, sanded the entire frame and blasted with paint (Tremclad rust paint). Your Truck looks good. I also bought mine with fender flares and that’s where it rusted, not as bad as yours, but still rusted through. Good job!

Nice job with the rust repair! I hate how badly the salt can be on vehicles in Ontario :disgust: My 2012 has a good amount of rock chip rust spots and now the rocker panels is starting to see a bit along with the bottom of my door, and it's been an ongoing battle near the handle of my tailgate

Awesome score on the truck bed....my sons 2005 1500 needs some TLC. Some minor rust spots here and there, along with some dents and paint chips. Nothing has rotted through, which is a plus. The inside of the bed is banged up pretty good. The front of the bed is pushed into the back of the cab....need to get that straightened out. Already have an aftermarket tailgate coming to replace the smashed up one that's there.

I’m looking to track myself down a bed and rear fenders that will fit my 2004 2500 Slt 4x4.

Any idea if the next gen will fit the same, so I can broaden my looking?
