I let my wife buy a Ford Edge and I realize it may be a major mistake.

I've never liked Fords. I've always thought they were junk. This is from personal experience with a 1997 F-150 I used to own. That engine went on me with under 100k on the clock. After I had the engine replaced a Ford guy I worked with told me that I need to buy something with a proven engine. My next truck after that Ford was a 2001 Ram 1500 with a 360. And so my Ram journey began.

Fast forward to today. My wife needed something bigger than her Journey because of her back. The Grand Cherokee didn't work. I had one of those before and she had trouble getting into that. The Durango's were nice but really expensive. So enter the Ford Edge. Her sister has one and she loves it. My wife drove it and she liked it so we found a 2019 Edge SEL. It's a nice car. Fully loaded with the exception of a sun roof which we didn't want anyways. It has either the 2.0 or 2.3 ecoboost in it. We've only had it a few weeks. She bought it right after I bought my truck. Tonight I come across this video telling me that there is an engine design flaw with it. Here's the video. What do you guys think?

I think you are too late. Should have done the research BEFORE buying. Since they all seem to have the same issue I guess it doesn't really matter that you don't know what motor it actually has.

What kind of car do your drive mam? A red one!

They could make a similar video about Hemi tick and warped manifolds. Question is, how many of the Fords actually develop this problem. If you are really worried about it, find another vehicle she likes as well and flog this one or buy an OEM Ford extended warranty. Best of luck.

What does Ford offer for a powertrain warranty, 5 years and 60K or 100K miles?

I would take your VIN and stop by a Ford service department and have them look up and see if there are any TSBs that are addressing the design issue. That is about all you can do.

Every vehicle is junk on the internet. If Fords were junk do you really think they'd still be in business? I get it, I got a lemon Grand Cherokee and almost didn't look at Ram because of it, but my Ram(s) have been great.

I did do some research and found out that the older engines have issues but they corrected them on the '17 and up so I felt good about it.

I guess they could make a video about the Hemi tick and failed lifters and how many Hemi's actually have that problem. I'm pretty sure it has a 5/60 power train.

I'll let my wife know about the video and see what she wants to do. I'm still under the power train warranty so let's see what happens

We had an Edge up to 187k miles. Only issue was an alternator.
That's good to hear. My wife only puts around 5k a year on her car so her cars last.

Wife had the 2.3L EB in a Mustang, she put over 100k (very long commute) on it before, we decided to have another baby and traded it in on an Escape Titanium 2.0L EB. The Escape ended up being too small and she got a F150 with the 2.7L EB. My mom still has the Escape and I think it has around 80k miles on it.

None of them had any engine issues.

Sounds like more and more that video of engine failures is the equivalent of the Mopar lifter failure stories.

Nobody clicks on a video titled "everything works like you expect it to". In the attention economy it literally pays to talk up problems and worry people. News figured that out decades ago. Is this common household item killing your pets? Tune in at 11 to find out...

Good luck. I have owned 5 Fords and 2 needed new engines before 50,000 miles and 1 at 70,000 miles. Will never buy another

Unfortunately that's been my experience as well. Hopefully this one will be a good one. These engines are in everything that Ford offers kinda like the Hemi.

Mine were back in the 90's. 1991 F150 5.0 needed rebuilt at 45,000 miles. 1994 F250 7.5 that I traded after I went through 6 quarts of oil going from Pittsburgh to Nags Head with only about 25,000 on that one. The other was a 1996 Ford Windstar that blew a head gasket at 70,000 miles.

They are close to the same size but the Edge sits up a little higher maybe because it's an AWD model. That makes it easier for her to get into. The back seat has more leg room for our son. The Journey had third row seating that we left down, but because of that there was very little leg room. And our Journey had a 4cyl in it. When we bought it, I told her I thought it was underpowered. She said it had enough power for her. She doesn't really drive my truck so when she did and she felt what the Hemi could do merging and getting out into traffic, she changed her mind. This Edge has a little get up and go, nothing compared to my truck, but its much quicker than the Journey. She's happy with it.

I wouldn't buy a Ford Truck. But I have own Ford Edge and Ford Escape.
Never had an issue with either of them. But that was years ago. No clue about new ones.
Escape was stolen. Edge was badly damaged in accident.

I had a '76 Ford Squire Wagon with a 460 c.i. engine. You could actually see it rust before your eyes. Bad rods and mains at 42k.
