t is way cheaper and a lot less aggravation to just buy the right truck in the first place. If you want to run 37s and still be able to tow get a Power Wagon or a Diesel. The 1500s are glorified cars.
Cool thanks.

It's also to reduce some stress for towing, so still maybe not worth it, but more so for the camper. You're right about the price, seems to be about that even if I source my own used parts and swap them (somewhere, can't do it in the apartment parking lot lol). It would be even more I think to do the older diff and bigger gears.
No yeah I understand ... but consider going to 4.56s if you are still wanting to regear, you will then really feel the difference and yeah you can't do it in the apartment parking lot lol ....

I'm looking at regearing from 3.21 to 3.92 for my 35s, just sucks that the front diff has little options as I'd prefer to drop in a factory setup.

The Gen 3 front diff swap is super simple and is the only way to get 4.56s in a 1500. And you never have to deal with that POS gen4 front diff.

So its a win win with zero downside. Now you have replaceable intermediate shafts on both sides.

Don’t know….. have never made it that fast yet.

Surprisingly, it does pretty damn good But then never said it was totally stock :33:

For what it’s worth, I’ve got 35” with 3.92 gears.

After doing the lift & tires gas mileage definitely went down, but keep in mind…. I’m not too concerned with that loss and not why I did it.

I run all around town and Freeways just fine. I have tossed around going to 37’s and if I do I’d definately regear.

Consensus seems to be 4.56 with 35’s, and 4.88 for 37’s for optimal combination.

Here’s a useful chart for guidance as well.

Power (blue) vs economy (yellow) vs best of both comparison (green)
I have no complaints at all with my tire size and the 3.92s either. No issues going through the mountans (tennessee/GA) with this set up and I didnt seem to be searching for gears. Averaged 17.5 mpg for my recent trip from FL to TN and back (per trip computer) which Im not complaining about either. I've also seen how helpful appropriate gearing can be. My brothers 97 Jeep TJ with a 2.5 and 5 speed came with 4.11 gears and I put 33s on it and drove for a few days before the 4.88s were installed and it was indeed a huge difference.
Just don't know if I personally want to spend that kind of $$$ on this truck when I already have those nasty little thoughts telling me I need a 3500 cummins SRW long bed.. and we all know those thoughts only get stronger and stronger

I definitely went truck online looking after thinking through all this today, I found an awesome 2500 6.4 and was promptly shot down on spending house down payment money on a truck, oh well, after house.

Great thread. Made up my mind up for me.

Looks like 35's with my stock 3.92's is in my future.

Now if I can just settle on a wheel and diameter.

With the 8 speed a 4.10 gear would be fine with 37s. I had factory 33s and 3.92 and moved up to 35s and 3.92. If I swap to 37s I would regear. it would be to 4.10 with 37s because the 8 speeds really low first gear compensates pretty well. According to most charts my 3.92 and 35s is already good enough and the equal gearing for 37s to match is a 4.10 anyways. The 3.92 and 35s is plenty for me. I’m moving up to a 6” coilover lift but setting it down to around 5-5.5” lift up front and 3 rear because I plan on keeping 35s unless the truck eventually becomes a dedicated off-road rig which then I’ll already be set for 37s

I ran 37’s with 3.92s and the 6 speed trans. That was couple of years ago. The Hemi has power to move them but she won't feel as peppy as moving 33's, 35's are still ok, but you might feel the sluggishness of the 37's for sure with 3.92's if you had the 6 speed trans. If you have the 8 speed trans it should be better. I put 12k miles on the 37's before i went back to 35's. Back then the truck was my DD and i was doing a lot of city driving, so MPG really sucked for me at 9-10mpg (city only), and gas was only $3 and change. (I live in Socal). I can only imagine the crap i'd have eaten when gas went up to $6 almost $7 around here with 37's :) I've been more than happy with the 35's since gas is still $5 and change and i get 12-13mpg with those in the city, plus i get better performance and better braking power. 37's do look cool for sure, and if you're offroading the clerance is nice to have. That's why i'm staying with 35's. 33's won't cut for me.

Never thought we’d be glad if gas come back to $3. But from $6+, it does sound pretty good. It’s dipping into my mod money $$$

Hard to believe just a little less then 2 years ago I filled up for $1.04 in Iowa. Was working there at the time.

I'll be in the same predicament choosing tire size next year. I've got 295 70 18 now with 55k miles on them but they still have 6/18 tread. They'll last me through this winter but by next winter I'll need/want new ones. I can't decide on 35s or 37s. I've got the 6 speed and 3.73s and regearing isn't an option.

My wife was actually driving the truck as a DD as she was the one taking the kids out ot school as her work place is close and she loves the truck space. Everything was cool until the gas price went up and we started noticing $140-$160 full tanks every 2 days. I parked the truck back then and bought a 2022 Kia Rio S brand new, financing the thing in 5 years at 2% and change it's paying itself up. Fill ups right now with $42 every one week and that's with gas at $5.25, If gas goes back to $3.50 then it'll be $28 a week. We're still driving he truck but it's mostly for long trips or when we need to stuff the back of the truck to carry chit around.
