I’m stumped. I’ve tried Morimoto 55w, some amazon 55w, and now DDM 35w HID kits. All of them were canbus kits and I have HID lamps set in AlphaOBD.

Not a single kit lights up, at all. Are the 2016 Rams with projectors doomed to never have HID lamps or am I doing something wrong?

Just ran into this on my 2017. Got a kit from Xenon Depot and I installed only the driver side and it wouldn't ignite. Even tried reversing the polarity to no avail.

Can you screenshot your HID/LED settings?

Also check the polarity of the extension cable from the truck connection to the ballast connection. Sometimes that cable is backwards on polarity.

I’ll get a screenshot of the settings in the morning. I did try the flipping the power connector to see if the polarity was an issue, it didn’t work either way. :(

It seems the HIDs aren’t getting power at all, the ballasts don’t even warm up.

If you can, use a couple of jumpers and wire the ballast directly to the battery. If it ignites, then you know the ballast and lamp are good removing one possible cause of failure.

^^^ what he said and/or try the headlights without starting the engine, this negates the bulb out detection that might be keeping the headlights from igniting.
You may need to use AlfaOBD to turn the High Intensity Lamp setting on in the BCM.

Take a pic of the connections at the ballasts to the truck. I dealt with this on my initial install also. For whatever they cross that connection sometimes from the HID manufacturer. I had to depin the connection and flip it.

I’ll try running the ballast off the battery… need to find cables, garage is a mess lol.

They won’t ignite with the engine off either. Tried plugging them into the highbeam plug as well and they did not ignite with the high beam.

Pictures attach of headlight power output, HID power input, and overall lighting.

The kit came with additional warning eliminators which I’m not sure if they go after the ballast warning eliminators or between the headlight and HID power connectors.

Try flipping the oem plug 180 degress. If that doesn't work message us if you want a kit that will work.
I did try flipping it with no luck. I’ll hit you guys up if this one doesn’t work… that will be 3 kits so far that have failed on this truck haha.

Success. The secondary error eliminators sit in between the headlight power out and HID power in. So now it’s time to bust out the stepped but and put a hole in my headlight cover.

I appreciate everyone’s help and hopefully the troubleshooting steps in this thread will help others as well.

Those canbus decoders do not use. They are notorious for exploding and melting. Those were used when Hids first came out. You have to may parts to try to make the canbus system work. You will also want tot put the oem bulbs back in for a couple days to reset the computer.

I recall the capacitors blowing back in the early 2000s and folks going back and forth being DDM and Umnitza kits. If I recall that was an issue with some vehicles having reverse polarity and the capacitors blowing within the first minute of being on.

If these blow I’ll just get a set of LED headlights. I’ll be done dealing with HIDs on this truck.

It has to be the connection on the error canceller. Flip that one.

Second thought. Get rid of that kit. Seriously. That's a fire waiting to happen

Get a ballast that separates from the ignitor and be done with it. Leave all of the extra out.

I tried 2 other kits with discrete ballasts and igniters, I even swapped their ballasts as well… neither worked. Every single configuration i tried would never light up.

Are you using a relay kit or wiring straight from the stock harness on each side?

Straight from the stock harness. I tried the relay harness that came with my Morimoto kit but that never worked with any of the ballasts/igniters/bulbs I have tried. :(

This 35w DDM Tuning kit with 9-16v capacitors is the only setup that has actually worked on this truck.

Do you have AlfaOBD and set the front lights to HID?

Yup, vehicle config 3 high intensity discharge or whatever it was called is set. :)

The DDM kit works, so HID for me. In fact, I’ve used DDM HIDs in all of my bikes, trucks, and cars since 2008 when DDM was new and Jim was still posting on bimmerforums about their kits and E36 projectors.

They’ve all worked flawlessly, let’s see if this kit works the same.
