I have a 2018 3500 with 6.4l engine with about 49,000 miles on it. Randomly started getting the ABS/EBS lights coming on and off starting about a month ago. Doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason, they will come on and off a few times and then go away. Some drives they don't come on at all, some drives it happens a lot. Doing some research I guess there is an issues with the hydraulic control unit (HCU) or the ABS module? I saw someone mention a bulletin from Ram that states to replace the HCU only and that get's rid of the problem. Can anyone confirm this?

Doesn't look to hard of a job, but want to make sure this is most likely the issue before I get the part.

Speaking of parts, @AllMoparParts.com , is the P/N for the HCU on my truck 68143491AA? Thanks for the help Benny.

Likely the HCU. Just had mine replaced. Problem is you can't get them. They have been discontinued and my local dealer called me last week saying the expected availability is now June 2023. I was able to find one at another dealer and had it shipped to my house and my buddy owns a garage and did it. $520 for the HCU shipped to my door and $140 labor for install. You need a special tool to bleed the HCU. I did not replace the ABS module as thedealer said mine tested ok.

And yes, I got the AA part. AB is the newer version but not available yet.

BTW- i have a 2018 2500

Yes it is and the separate ABS Module would be 68347098AB if needed

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,

Special tool to bleed the HCU? The few video's I've seen doesn't mention that. Looks like you unscrew the lines on the top and let the brake fluid drain down.

From what I saw/read the solenoids in the HCU have to be activated to properly bleed them and that takes a special tool. My guy had the tool so I let him do it.

Oh yeah that's just to bleed out the air after installing the new HCU. I thought you meant when taking out the HCU. You can do it with a scanner. I'm pretty sure Alphaobd can activate the ABS bleed.

No, It looks like they are at least 2 weeks out.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,

Sounds good.

Is break fluid 04318080GD the right one for my truck? I'll need some of that as well.

Also is there a shipping code for the holidays going on?

Thanks for all your help!

AlfaOBD can do it. The HCU pump needs to cycle the air out in a specific way to properly bleed.
There is a great YouTube video on the HCU replacement too.

My 2018 2500 has been waiting months for the HCU under warranty.
Apparently, there is a "manufacturing delay" and the part is blocked from ordering I am told, they hope early next year... In the meantime, ABS doesn't work, and I get "dinging" occasionally while driving.

Benny may know more, but my last email from Mopar was "Right now they are having issues gaining access to materials needed to manufacture your parts which is why this is delayed. I do not have a firm ETA for you on this part but as soon as I have an ETA I will let you know immediately."

Hopefully, Mopar is fixing this part, way too many vehicles with this same issue around the same mileage
Good luck!

How are you getting it replaced under warranty? Mine is a 2018 with 28,000 miles and they told me no go on the warranty

I wouldn't call it warranty, more of a "dealers helping with the cost". I'm still paying a chunk of it.

They really need a recall on this. But then again, without the parts what can they do. I just spent $700 getting mine replaced.

I have the same lights on intermittently. The dealer said needs new HCU, and rotors. They quoted the complete job at $2600, bleeding lines, etc. It's an '18 Ram 3500 flatbed dually. Is this a crazy price?

My dealer quoted me about $800 for the HCU installed and out the door. I paid about $500 for my HCU and my buddies shop installed it for $140. And like said, rotors have nothing to do with it.

Wow, thank you both. They said the rotors are cracked?

If they are cracked, that would be a totally separate unrelated issue. I’d pull my wheels and look at them, or ask them to show you. It could just be a cash grab on their part.

I have worn rotors to the point they can no longer be resurfaced, never seen one crack yet. If yours have, would be really interested to hear what caused that. What I really think is you may need to find someone more trustworthy to do your repairs. Price quoted is past outrageous, even if you need new rotors. Rotors run about $120 each, pads about $50 bucks a set for the heavy duty ones, so even with $500 for the HCU, that is a pot load of labour. At 150 an hour, +ten hours to do a brake job.
