Headers from my truck are available if anyone needs them.

Honestly first $20 plus shipping takes them. I have a box I can use so won’t be an added expense.

I’ll throw in my bolts that didn’t break, but I recommend getting new hardware.

Autozone carries 10.9 bolts: they’re m8-1.25x something longer than 25mm lol.

My new AFe manifold bolts are 25mm and the oem were substantially longer. Prolly 35/40mm.

Sadly, one of the bolt holes twisted off the top heat shield.

Started right up like I never even worked on her. No hesitation or cel, nothing.

Running her at 2000rpm for 20 mins just because. Used generous amounts of assembly lube, primed the upper and lower engine with oil, and did the gas pedal to the floor crank twice before first turn over, but still.

Oil pressure is 54psi with the hellcat pump and 50psi spring at 2000rpm.
38psi at hot idle with rp20-820.
Won’t be hitting 6000rpm any time soon.

If you haven't figured this out yet, odds are it's the transmissions vent line,if it is,the tube/hose should go down to the top of the transmission

It’s crazy how smooth the engine sounds now. Been so long since it’s sounded this way.

Also crazy how loud the injectors are with headers. I knew this was going to happen from headers I’ve had on other cars, but wow.

For now everything is going smoothly.

I have a small oil leak above the drivers side header. I’m thinking it was that stupid fel-pro valve cover seal that was falling out at install. Gonna take that cover off today to take a look.

Otherwise, just slowly draining water and adding coolant and testing each day to get to 50/50 -34°.

Can’t wait until this is completely done.

So confirmed the valve cover gasket was pinched and cut.

The felpro ones vs50625r are junk; poorly fitting and doesn’t stay in the groove.

So I’m ordering Mahle as replacements.

*edit the Mahle press fit better but still not oem tight in the groove.

Getting to the gasket on the drivers side SUCKS after you’ve put everything back on.

I wrestled it out without taking the intake manifold off but no way I can get it back on with the gasket where it should be without taking something off.

I’ve seen where people loosen the brake booster.

Ok well that sucked and my knuckles are bleeding (****** is censored?) but the valve cover gasket has been replaced.

Mahle gasket still required rtv to stay in place - used about 3/8” worth on the flat areas

I loosened the brake booster and removed the oil cap.

Place the valve cover oriented like it should be to go on the engine, above the intake manifold. Gently pull the ac lines towards the drivers side fender and then rotate the valve cover clockwise as you face the rear of the truck, adjusting ac lines / brake booster as needed to get it over the oil inlet and alternator.

Be patient it will go. Do things slowly and avoid the overwhelming desire to rip everything out of the way :angels25:

I’m kinda of frustrated that I’ve replaced one tick with another…
Lifter tick for loud injector tick through tubular headers :banghead:
Probably more combustion chamber noise you're hearing now instead of injector tick,as you'll hear the same ticking/tinging noises when you put a set of headers on a carb equipped engine.Wrapping them would of made a differance

Can you post a short video or recording of the injector ticking? I've always wanted to do headers but now you have me worried lol.

I have the v6 fan swap.
This is way louder than that.
I’ve been around the exhaust collectors twice to look for leakage, but honestly I think I still have one.

I was really shocked to see there’s no flex pipe or gasket!!
You did shorties didn't you? If so they're famous for leaking at the ball socket joint. There's a post on here where somebody used a modified if i remember right Mahle gasket to seal up that joint with their shorties,it's a fairly recent post,so shouldn't be to hard to find

Found the thread.

Awesome I’ll have to try those.
I have AFE shorty headers but I’m experiencing exactly what he described. And that’s exactly the kind of donut gasket I was expecting to find at the collector / has been on every collector I’ve had on other cars.

I’m almost certain I have a leak. Will post when I get it sorted and what I do to fix.

*Edit - confirmed I definitely have a leak on at least the passenger side.
I purchased the Mahle donut gaskets which will arrive on Saturday. I may purchase some upgraded bolts for the collectors as well. I have them as tight as I could get them (but with a short wrench) I can certainly crank down on them more but who knows if they’ll break.

Update, I went under the truck with intentions of installing the donut gaskets and to my surprise the collector bolts were loose!?

I cranked down on them as tight as I could before with a stubby ratchet so this time I tried tightening them with my 1/2” ratchet long extension and a universal joint.

Going to see if this cures the leaks if so I’ll return the gaskets otherwise that’s the next step. If it does I’ll probably apply locktite to the threads as well.

tightened while cold

Also noticed I have a pinhole leak by the y pipe (my mid pipe is welded directly to the Y cause it used to always leak no matter what)

*update - passenger side leak sound is gone, but driver leak is still there.
Who decided to put an o2 sensor right in the path of the bolt!
