Hi Everyone. I was starting to think about adaptive cruise control after a long trip.
Is it possible to install on a Ram that has regular cruise control ? I have a 2021 Warlock with tech package, but no adaptive cruise.Ive seen a video of a guy replacing the steering wheel controller with that adaptive one on a TRX. Any thoughts?

Not sure on this one. The adaptive uses two different sensors (one in the grill and one in the rear view mirror) that would have to be installed and all the wiring that goes with it.

Thanks for the info. Now wondering if I should hit a junkyard for parts . I certainly do not have a grill sensor. I'm willing to try

Lots is possible with AlfaOBD.
Looks like it will my first purchase! Reading on it and sounds interesting. With my truck , I think I found the place it would plug in. The picture below is under my kick plate from the driver's side

If you're referring to AlfaOBD, it gets plugged into the OBDII port under your steering wheel using either a Bluetooth or wifi adapter.

I’m watching this thread with interest, I’d pay a lot to install it on mine if the hardware and software can be procured. It was difficult enough just finding a truck to buy this year, and a HD with ACC is apparently unobtainium in ‘22.

I'm interested in this, too. I have a '16 with a lot of options, but no adaptive cruise. Our car with adaptive cruise has spoiled me!

I found after using the adaptative cruise on my 21 pacifica, I have turned it off and will never use it again. It picks up objects randomly, and without warning will slam on the brakes so hard it will almost skid. Then on the other end of the spectrum, if the car in front of you turns out of the way it will floorboard the gas until it reaches a set speed. I have it on my new 22 2500, and my wife forbids me to use it if she is in the truck.

Had adaptive cruise in a ford work vehicle, it actually worked great. We paid extra for the safety package in the FCA vehicles we have, didnt work as well as we thought they would.

Yes it is definitely possible, several have accomplished this very thing. There is a really comprehensive thread on this subject in another forum...I feel dirty posting it here but a quick search should yield results easily.

Thanks for sharing that, it diminishes my enthusiasm for dumping a lot of money on this project. My experience has been with Ford and Subaru; their ACC works well.
I have briefly used a GM truck and experienced one episode of unexpected acceleration when changing lanes. The car ahead did also, but the Chevy seemed to lose track of it. It goosed the throttle like it wanted to rear end the car ahead.

If people want it, well heck. Not for dis BOIRD. I do not want AI, FCA, friggin Google running my truck,. Just regular cruise do well enough. Nothing would upset me more than for sensors to read wrong and truck do something and then OMG. Kinda makes me think of Tesla and all the self driving stuff and accidents, with fools sleeping while car goes down the road, in the back seat, whateva. Maybe reaching a bit, but when I am in a vehicle driving, I want to be controlling, not an AI circuit. BOIRD rant over.

ADDED: Just been to too many instances when PPL driving and not paying attention, fall asleep, get distracted, whateva and the end result, and it is never pretty, and none of the excuses work either.

Overall, I either want 100% total self driving, as then I can blame the car, or basically nothing. I do actually like ACC in my wife's Rav4, but I can't stand the lane keep crap. The only time it seems to work for me, is when it doesn't like that I drive a little left of center. So I fight the lane keep, meanwhile it does nothing when I am starting to drift because of my ADHD, or being exhausted. But the Adaptive is nice, as most of my driving area is in cities, during "normal" hours, where the truck's dumb cruise I have to futz with constantly. The think I like about the idea of ME installing it, is if I find it is ******* terrible, I can disable it, but it is now there should I ever need to sell the truck. And my logic is, it will cost me a lot less to install myself versus the "value" increase.

One thing bought with it, another to put in. But OP, if that is what you want to do, you not need me to approve/disapprove, lmao. OP, do what makes you happy, not us, hee hee.

PALEFLYER: What makes U happy, I have no issue with regular cruise, just disable when in situations where it not advisable to use (never turn on in a city, why). But than, I's just a simple BOIRD, no high expectations especially in a low trip Bighorn, LOL. Jump in push button, start motor, select heat/AC, or open winder, turn on radio and go. All issues resolved, LOL.

Buddy said he had used ACC in a few FCA vehicles, and didn't have issues with it (He worked at a stealership at the time). But a different buddy in a '16 corolla had what you had happen. Meanwhile the Wife's '21 RAV4 does a good job of ACC. So I would guess it probably has a lot to do with the version of ACC you get. IE if they made improvements on the ACC firmware in your version, plus "height over bore" of the sensor/road object.

The wifes last 2 Challengers have had the adaptive cruise,i like it,but it will pin your nose to the windshield if somebody swaps lanes right in front of you,and it will accelerate fairly aggressively after the car in front of you moves out of the way.The wife quit using it after it pinned her nose to the windshield,as it scared the hell out of her with all the warning bells / chimes and dash lights that went off warning car to close. It's done it to me once, and i have to admit it gets your attention in a hurry, and you won't be sleepy for awhile after it does it

Yeah, the Wife's RAV4 does the same. But it's handy for those long drives to her dad's for holidays, as we now leave after work... So I get 8+ hours of steering wheel time after working 8 hours...
