Was discussing with a buddy about some of the crazy trucks coming out (got on a tangent about the 2500 Warlord, and the 1500 TRX Mammoths), and started to think, comparing the 4th gen 5.7l V-8 NA in the "normal" 1500, to the "normal" 5th gen 5.7L NA V-8, without the E-Torque/Auto-Start/Stop crap. Is there any real difference? Like I expect Dodge/FCA/Stellaris made some iterative changes, but were there any "generational" jumps? The discussions I found in a quick google were all about the 6.7L Cummins in the 2500's.

And if so, are they the kind of changes that make the engine cheaper/easier to make, or do they "fix" any issues, and so I should look into?

Nothing new being added. Only modifications on the trims, adding HD rebel, etc.

I don't have any documented proof of this, mostly anecdotal evidence. But based on what I've read they made a change to the exhaust manifolds to help reduce the issues with broken exhaust bolts. Which seems to have increased the number of broken or cracked exhaust manifolds that 5th gens are seeing.

No real changes, more in modifications: Like they changed the HVAC system, went to a poorly designed one that was "modified" late 2020's. Also, they moved the ECU from firewall to by battery, lil things like that. There were also some cosmetic changes, like grills and such. But really depends upon which trim level and year DT truck you buy, as on the really early DT's, you got LED reflector lighting, on the later ones, you have to go way up in trim level/truck level (ie., like a Longhorn/Limited) to get the lighting, all sort of oddities there. All IMHO.

Transmissions changed, the 5.7 5th Gens now get the more robust 8HP75 with a better ratio spread between the gears

So the actual engine itself from what we know is effectively the same. Cool. Or not cool, if they didn't fix the "tick"/lifter failure issue...

my '19 laramie came with the 8HP75. the 5.0 first gear really launches the truck. we use this truck to tow our 6000# travel trailer and having that low first gear and 3.92 rear end helps get things moving.
