The boards showed up this morning so I installed them and I'm really pleased with them. They really go well with the wide body kit. I still may need some flaps to complete the protection from tire sling stuff. I also received a quote for a complete paint job with stripes & minor body work. With a little luck I came at least get the exterior completed by years end.

After 2 weeks of being installed, the running board definitely help keep debris off the back fenders. But as expected, the front needs some protection. I had a sheet of FRP board (Fiber Reinforce Plastic, I believe that's what the abbreviation means) so I custom fitted a mock up to see how they will perform before she gets painted. The FRP also comes in gloss black so if these work well, the mock ups will be patterns that I can fine tune. So far they seem to fit well and are a combo mud flap and fender well liner. Now for a washing to see how well they will work.

Well, this really sucks! I love my running boards but the place where they bolt to is way under designed! The boards and brackets are beefy enough, but the body where they bolt to is not. I'm going to have to do a little modifying to fix this issue.Running Board Brackets.jpg

I agree, mine are holding up well but when I was installing them it was my first thought. I even looked up online to see if this mounting was common (it is but I still don't like it)...

This is kind of a known issue. Someone makes a weld in/on plate that has the captive nuts...

That sucks! Did you hit something or what?
No, I didn't hit anything. I live down some bumpy dirt roads that I drive 4+ miles a day on. The boards were shaking up & down and fatigued the weak point on cab. The connection point is to thin. Just bad engineering on Rams part.

Hey, mopar78 I bought the hood from you.

I do paint and light body work. If you have any questions as you start, hit me up and I can probably help you along each step. There are some tricks I can tell you and there are a few things you will need to aquire to properly get your panels sealed and flat before paint.

There are also some good auto body forums you should check out to get you started properly. I have picked up some good tips on those forums.

Thanks for the offer on paint & body advice! I may hit you up on that! I've watched many videos on You Tube but I didn't think on the idea of paint & body forums. Great Idea. Any particular forums you would recommend? Thanks in advance!

I like autobody101. The members are chill and helpful for the most part. If you make an account and new thread with your project they will help you thru it. 95% of the advice I saw on there is spot on also. I would go read for a while and get a feel for who the guys that are responding that aren't newbies.

Well time to dust off this thread! The new Whipple Supercharged 5.7 "Hell Kitten" engine, transmission and transfer case have been installed and running great! Now time to get back to the paint & body work! My orders in and hopefully will be here in a couple of weeks. I have several days off (11-18-22 thru 11-27-22) to try and make it happen. The stripes will match (close enough) the accent on the wheels.

One more week to go and I'll finally get to start! My garage was a mess when the engine went down so I had to build it, swap it the transmission and transfer case the way it was. Not this time on the paint & body work. I'm going to line the whole garage with plastic like a scene from Dexter! I've put a big dent in it today and will be finishing up soon. Under the plywood is a pit that I'm going to put the fan that's setting on the plywood. I'll pipe it to outside so that it will cause a draft to exhaust the room (negative pressure). The supply air will come from the 2 HVAC diffusers with filters on them to help control the temperature in there.

That should work pretty good as a quick temporary paint booth. Don't skimp on the incoming air filters to keep dust out.
Take your time on the prep work as you have worked hard on this project. Can't wait to see it completed and running

Well, this took longer than I thought it would. I finally got the garage cleared out, sealed and painted white to help with the lighting. The area is 18' x28 ' and should work fine. Looks like this job will go into a few weekends to do it right. I piled everything that was in the garage into the cave and will be building a shed later to store it in. I plan on parking the ram in the garage to keep the critters off it. I'm using the sound room for the mixing room that's next to the garage.
