A few weeks ago I was driving and noticed a pop noise that seemed to come from under the passenger footwell area. I inspected under the truck and under the hood but found nothing wrong from what I could see. Fast forward a few days later and I am parked on a steep incline and noticed a red fluid leaking from under my truck. One picture shows the long drip line left on the concrete. I moved my truck up the incline to see if it was actually from my truck and after about 30 minutes of working I came back to find more. Once I poked my head under the truck I noticed the drip was coming from on top of a heat shield located near the transfer case. I immediately took it to the dealership thinking it was transmission fluid. The fluid was a dark red color. After showing them these pictures and explaining everything, the tech said he couldn’t find any leaks and it was probably condensation. The truck drives fine and all fluid temps are fine as well. It is very concerning to see red fluid leaking out of a brand new truck through. Since taking it to the dealer I have parked in that same spot and not noticed any further leaks. Anyone have any idea what this might be?

The only red fluid you have back there would be in the transfer case,as the 8 speed fluid is more a clear greenish colour.Check the fluid level of your transfer case.

Thanks! Are there any connecting hoses to the transfer case that could have popped off causing the popping sound I heard? The dealer said they checked fluid levels and all were fine but I’ll have to double check their work I guess. You would think if I told them it was red fluid and they knew the transmission fluid was greenish as you described they would know where to look.

You'd have a massive coolant or transmission fluid leak if any of the bigger hoses popped off back in that vicinity, the only hose your transfer case has is the vent hose,it might have popped off,if it did, you'll want to blow some air through it,as that's an indication it's plugged. It's easy enough to check if it's still attached when you check the t-cases fluid level

Did you ever get anything official figured out on this ? I have a 2023 with 4k miles on it and just started having the exact leak.

Took it to the dealer and they checked all the fluid levels. They said everything looked great and nothing was leaking. They said the liquid is rusty water. I just drove through a big rain storm the night before and the tech thinks water got in an area with rust and drained off when I parked on a hill. I’m frustrated there is rust on a 2023 with 4k miles.
