Had an interesting few minutes with the auto park feature in my 19 today.

I've had the seat belt extenders in my 19 for a few years it does eliminate many of the safety **** bugs but not all of them.
I put my snow tires on today went over to my brothers to use his lift. We are both big guys so we have to get out of the trucks before they are in position to be lifted and roll them the last couple of feet to fit between the uprights.
How in the hell is a perdon supposed to be able to roll the truck a few feet on a level floor when it keeps throwing itself into the auto park mode and you can't get it to stay in neutral????
What a piece of garbage, had to put the transfer case into neutral in order to roll the truck.
I thought about the pull strap in the dash but having never used it wasn't sure how well it would reset.
and that was after turning off the auto parking brake (I do like that as constant use they don't freeze up) and putting the air suspension into the jack mode.

Get a 4 post lift :)
He has one of those also, but it acts as winter storage for his wifes Chrysler no way is that getting displaced for work, plus his two WD 45 play tractors are stored under the 4 post.

When you are sitting in the car in nuetral with the engine running, it stays in nuetral.
Just don't turn the ignition off.

Just goofin ya Lou, yeah FCA took a lot of heat for the death of Anton Yelchin, so they are not playing around with the auto-park.
Hmmmmmm, might need to go outside one day and play, and see what works. I do not use auto park ref parking brake, but I do engage it every so often so the "system" is exercised.

ADDED: Nothing I hate more than my "truck" being smarter than me. Glad my motorcycle is on a 2006 based frame, so I can officially say I am smarter than my MC. But I did one day, riding when really hot out, come up to a light to make a left turn. Friggin Bike just stopped running, could not figure out why. After a kazillion attempts to get bike to run/starter engage, I finally figured out that somehow in all the heat of riding, sitting there, I hit the kill switch on the right handle bar grip location, WHAT a DUMB BOIRD I was, grrrrrrrr. (Hmmm, in reflection, maybe MC smarter than BOIRD, hee hee)

I am just trying to imagine sitting in my truck. You know all them commercials where the vehicles, like high end Buicks, etc, park themselves. Do not think I could sit there and let my "RAM" park itself, lmao. Glad that is one thing do not have, at least on my Bighorn. FCA Engineers, do NOT GET any ideas if U read this post.

No I mean auto-park, when you open the door it puts it in park for safety reasons

THAT too, but I have a clip to put in when needed. When I go out in a field and getting hay, I put in my "clip" so as to override that function. I guess it has good and bad uses, maybe more good than bad, but it can be a real PITA without a work a round.

Shut off engine, put button in run, not ACC, shift to neutral, with seatbelt clip in place. Exit truck, at least with 2500s. As you found out however, it is also easy to set the transfer case to neutral and then there is no more messing around.

Unfortunately that doesn't work when you shut the engine down with the door open it stills goes into park.

Honestly, neva tried. Out getting hay and loading all by myself (into an enclosed stock trailer), neva turned off till got home, backed up trailer to garage to unload, then shut down. Truck only shut down if getting hay from a feed store, since their workers load, as opposed to getting hay out of the field where I be the driver, loader, unloader, man wears me out, think not as young as I used to be.

Yes, I knew it was there but it seems like a considerable amount of fussing for what should be a simple procedure.
RAM was not helpfull with all the damned nanny safeties and switches and gizmos in these trucks.
I also know that many times those panels and clip snap when cold or pryed on and never work right again.
I had also forgotten there was a safety catch that had to be activated, so if I had tried to use that I might have broken the danged thing.

I appreciate the post because I never knew that release existed but I agree it is a lot of fussing around. Popping the T case into neutral is a whole lot less work and accomplished the same thing as long as u have a 4x4.

I too am annoyed by a lot of the "features" on this truck. Stay tuned, I intend to write a post in the general discussion section relating to all my issues with the stupid they put into this vehicle. To be fair, most vehicles these days do not allow the operator to do things that used to be simple. I just wish there were more user configurability for those things which don't pose a safety hazard. This thing has a computer in it after all, how hard could it be?

Anyway, back to the brake thing. My problem with the brake is that I am not a tall person. When I use my ramps to service my truck, I always used to let the door hang open so I could see the ramps. Since it does not allow you to be in gear with the door open, and I can't push it up the ramps, I am stuck with lowering the window and hanging my head out that way. Problem is, I can barely reach the gas pedal and nearly went off the ramps the last time, when I tried to hit the brake and my foot slipped and hit the accelerator. It's like those marvelous "valves" they're putting on gas cans these days. Yes, a gas can is safer when you cannot extract the contents. They also cost 4 times what they would without the "safety" device. Every time I use one I spill more gas than I get into the tank. Safer?? Most people disable them anyway, but I suppose it allows the lawyers sleep soundly at night.

On my 2021 Ram 1500 I buckle the driver's seat belt behind my back and buckle it while the truck is running. I can open the door (while it's in any gear) and even hop out. Mine does NOT shift into park unless the belt is NOT buckled. Auto park also is disabled on my truck when I am in 4wd Low.

Dont' know if they changed something between 2019 and 21, but the procedure on mine is pretty simple, but I don't have a seat belt extender.

As for going up ramps, I could suggest a couple of things better than hanging out an open door.
1- find someone to guide you, even a kid
2 - set a mirror on the ground, find something to lean against, so you can the top of the ramp
3 - I can feel the truck go over the top lip to where the flat part of the top of the ramp is when I drive up easily enough without looking. Depending on the ramps you have, this may not work well for you.
