This is going to be hard to describe. When driving, and doing what I would call a “soft” acceleration - not mashing on the gas pedal, but just slightly speeding up - the truck feels almost like it’s going down a gear, then it makes this low throaty rumble, then it feels like it shifts up, makes a “vrroom” noise and slightly lurches forward.

So, imagine you’re driving 60 on the interstate. The car in front of you slows down, so you in turn slow down to around 50mph. The car in front of you then speeds up slightly. You lightly press on the accelerator to keep pace. Your truck makes a low noise like “brrrrrrrr” and as the truck speeds up it makes a light “vrooooom” and slightly lurches forward.

The truck doesn’t do this under a hard acceleration; only when slightly speeding up.

I hope what I typed makes sense.

Any ideas?

Sounds like the MDS kicking in and then out.
^^^^^^^^^THIS^^^^^^
Try disabling MDS by pressing the gear buttons until 8 is showing, then repeat the behavior that is causing the issue.

best,
DG

I don’t quite understand what you’re suggesting. Press the gear+ button while driving? Parked? Then what?

Ok, I watched this video, and I get what y’all are talking about. Half way through the video, he drives and records what it sounds like when the MDS turns on and off, and it’s very similar to what I’m describing. I’m going to try the gear button trick tomorrow to see if that fixes the issue.

If it is indeed the mds that is doing this, then good. I just wanted to make sure there wasn’t an issue with the truck that I’d have to get looked at.

Thanks for the responses.

That noise you're hearing is partly the exhaust tone when it goes from 8clyinders firing to 4clyinders firing and the transmission will make that tone also, make sure you hit the - button on the gear selector and hit the + button till you get to the 8-speed selected next to the gear selected on the heads-up display.

You can have it programmed out with a tuner. I just bought mine and it will be going in a couple weeks from now when I have the time.

Ordered a Diablosport i3.
Hopefully you ordered this one,as your 17 requires an unlocked PCM to tune. You have to unbolt your original PCM to get at the calibration ID number on the back of your original PCM,then include it and your VIN with your order

Nowhere does it state it will disable MDS and there is only i review 4 star!!! be careful!!!
It has canned tunes and it is the gateway to have a tuner write a custom tune where just about everything is possible. Its a very popular tuner. Many here have it.

Yes, I knew about the unlock. I ordered 8321R. I trade my PCM as a core. I actually called them and talked to one of their Tech guys. He verified everything before it shipped. Also slow-walked me through the install process and the process of getting a tune from a custom tuner. Tech Support gets an A+ from me so far.
