Looked into Fram XG2 vs Amsoil EA011, looks like the Fram comes out on top slightly with more filter media surface area, and more inlets, identical 20 micron filtration, but slightly weaker can side strength and 12 psi bypass filter instead of 15 on the amsoil.

Both use silicone anti drainback valve and wire backed synthetic media.

If RP is no longer available, think I'm sticking with fram xg2.

is exactly why I also stocked up on the XG2's in case they pull the same move the 20-820 did. I have ran both on my truck and as far as oil psi goes, is exactly the same.

I would store them inside and I think you will be ok, in the garage or trunk they can stiffen in warm air. My wifes car has a cartridge filter, the fram ultra stiffened but it did take a couple years to do it, I had bought a 6 pack and the last filter was very stiff prior to use, the RP older and next to it was very soft and pliable. I'd still use fram ultra, I'd just store them inside and not overstore them as in quantity.

I was just planning on throwing some redline on the gaskets before I throw them in the storage unit. The o-rings in the cartridge filter are in sealed bags so I'm not as worried about them.

Why would media stiffen if not for paper? Very suspicious.

It was the pink one, not the one below, but the one below seams a little suspect. I could be wrong, and would be very happy if that is the case, but we do need a few of the ones below cut open. White media outside, the new stiff yellow media inside, I guess they so no more screen needed. I have invested too much in what I am doing for my truck, but maybe some of yawll will carry the fram flag.

Something to discuss, from hemihustlins picure and ramffml, in search of replacements to the 20-820 what filter of there two would have less restriction? I wonder if fram adjusted their small filter because of this issue? If so, color me impressed. Look at all those holes on that small filter... Maybe I just passed because they were small, my bad I do appologize worth a look.

I'd be happy to cut open an XG, but already did my fall oil changes so I'm out of filters. Not that I couldn't get some more now, but too busy with my motorcycle upgrade at present.

I will try to remember to get an extra in spring to cut open. I have some small engine filters yet, but unsure if they're the latest, so I'm not gonna cut one of those.

A guy in the comments section did the same as me - contacted Fram, they told him the same thing they told me. They have two synthetic media layers now, the inner being stiffer and no longer needed wire screen support. Presumably this also means the outer layer has coarser media, providing sequential, gradual filtration to provide longer life. They claim longer life (more capacity).

I use Fram & Mopar Oil Filters, which one depends on stock levels in store(s).

PH3976A = 17 Micron @ 95% efficiency - Filter Media Material: Cellulose/Synthetic Blend - Up to 10k mile range

XG3976A = 11 Micron @ 99% efficiency - Filter Media Material: Dual Layered Synthetic Blend - Up to 20K mile range

TG3976A = 3 Micron @ 99% efficiency - Filter Media Material: Cellulose/Synthetic Blend - Up to 15k mile range

MO-285 = NA Micron @ NA efficiency (just says: Same as the filter that would be installed by your dealer, ensuring stable performance and helping to keep it working like the day it was bought new). And: (Designed for longer service intervals and severe driving conditions). And: (Provides three times more engine protection than the average of leading economy filters available for purchase on the market today).

Cant find much any real numbers for the MO-285 Mopar Oil Filter.....seems a bit odd.

I dont use Fleetguard oil filters but here the specs =

LF16035 = 30 Micron @ 100% efficiency & 10 Micron @ 60% efficiency- Filter Media Material: StrataPore - Mileage range from what others say from their answers/comments = 5-15k miles. Fleetguard doesnt have the mileage range.

That would be a good competitor to the RP 30-8A I use then, they make an XG8A that lists 99% at 20 microns whereas the RP lists 99% at 25 microns.

Wow, the small filter has 10 holes that look twice as big as the 8 holes on the big filter. What the heck is going on there?

Fram XG is listed as 99% at 20 microns. Burla posted a Project Farm particle count test that showed only Fram and Royal Purple Oil Filters filtered fine media, and Fram XG had more capacity than Royal Purple.

Right? Just maybe it used to have less but they adjusted because of some reason?

I cannot find that video anywhere if it was Project Farm that did it

What's the model number on that small fram? Because I also took a picture comparing the Fram XG10060 (what actually "fits" our hemi's in the online catalogs, comparable in size to RP 10-48) and the Fram XG2, and there are only 8 holes in the XG10060:
