I have a 2018 big horn 1500 with a drop in bed liner. The liner blocks some of the original bed lights, is there an alternative that works with the drop in liner? I ca't seem to find any.

run some LED tape lights down the entire length of the bed under the top rail. Check if the liner stays up against the outside of the bed at the top.
You can buy 12V weather proof LED tape lights at SuperBrightLEDs.com. Be sure to clean under the rail with rubbing alcohol, and wire them to the existing bed lights (will need to know how to solder if you buy a 16' roll). Did this type of lighting on my buddies 2500 w/8' bed.

I bought these to extend from oem bed lights

I plan to 3d print some pucks to put an angle on them so more light shows into the bed from thingyverse site. Colder right now so hesitant to use 3m tape in fear it may not last long. Might counter sink magnets into the pucks and JB weld the pucks in to bed of truck so I could replace lights later if they die out more easily since back of light housing is metal. Not sure yet, but lots of lighting options out there on amazon.

Thinking about this, I have never used my bed lights. Don't go searching the truck bed in the dark. Never thought about this before. They are nice to have, though, should I ever have the need.

Having the bed lights was a huge deal to me. I do the farmers market and unloading the bed in the dark just sucks so the bed lights are awesome. I would notch the bed liner so your lights can shine.

My 21 ram has the factory bed lights and a spray in liner and I added LED strips under each bed rail because I wanted more light under the tonneau cover. I get a set of these that I wired into the trailer plug harness. It's got a separate switch so I can use them on their own without the ignition being on. These are a with and without the lights pictures. This is also during the day Screenshot_20221203_185308_DuckDuckGo.jpg Screenshot_20221203_184034_Amazon Shopping.jpg

put a switch on left side can turn on off when i need them... tapped it off 12v from trailer

I was unaware that there isn't already a switch on the driver's side on all newer rams with factory bed lights. My '18 1500 definitely had them and my '22 3500 has them as well. I can't remember for sure if my '16 eco diesel 1500 had them as well, but I seem to recall someone reaching into the bed to turn them on and the alarm going off.

Seem to be pretty good to me in my 2500 Laramie.

OK, they are quite useful for lighting up the empty box.

I find the stock lights are most effective at blinding me and casting shadows. When trying to comb through the box filled with scuba gear, it was difficult to see smaller items in the shadows with constricted pupils.

I'm hoping by adding additional 'less-focused' illumination, I won't be as blinded and the shadow effect will be reduced, allowing me to see smaller things and into plastic bins, tool kits, etc.

Maybe my eyes are challenged by bright focused lights and the shadows created by them. I know driving at night has been 'not too easy' for the past decade or so, even while using yellow lenses.
YMMV

I know we're talking about bedlights, but your specific situation sounds like it calls for a head light, one of the ones you can flip to red light might be ideal.

LOL

Yes, in an ideal world, a headlamp might be a practical solution. It's only one more piece of kit.

Let me see if I can find a pic of getting organized for a 2-week dive trip, just for fun.
