Okay my truck when idling has lope to it, sounds like it has mild cam. Is that normal? The truck is a 17 w/5.7. Oil pressure is good. And no codes present.

Got it used about a year ago and it just started to do it. There is slight tap noise on the passenger side.

Pull the valve covers and turn the engine over by hand. Could be a wiped out cam lobe. Unless it’s misfiring and not throwing a code. How many miles on it and has all maintenance been done?

I had a misfire code and cleared it and it hasn’t came back. It has 68k and I change the oil every 3500 miles.

It was P0302
That code is for "cylinder 2 misfire". It could be as simple as a spark plug or coil but these 5.7s are fairly notorious for cam and lifter failures. It seems to happen more frequently on engines with excessive idle time

I just don’t have the money to fix it. I really like the truck just not all the problems associated with it.

I understand. If it is the cam and lifter issue it will only get worse and eventually lead to engine failure. If you're able to, get rid of it as soon as you can.

Now's the time to:

1) Take it somewhere and get a good diagnosis
2) Sell it for a loss and buy a Toyota
3) Do some basic troubleshooting and find/fix the problem. Problems are usually the result of small things (as mentioned by others). At this stage of the game it's waay to early to be talking about cam issues (yet).

1) Remove 1 plug from each cylinder and perform a compression test. You can get a tester free (for rent) from a parts store.

2) Observe the plugs as you remove them, their color/condition tells a story. Look it up or watch a video. Ohm out the pluugs or just replace them. I would ohm out each plug before installing it though, just because it only takes a couple minutes and you are currently having a 'miss' issue. If you had a bad 'new' plug, you wouldn't know where to start.

3) Ohm out the coil packs too. Look for cracks, traces, etc.

4) Check the PVC hoses for cracks or if one fell off

5) Clean the throttle body bore with a chemical-safe plastic brush and throttle cleaner. It might be real gummed up and that could be the problem too.

6) Run the vehicle and let us know how it's feels/codes, etc

When i remove spark plugs out of any vehicle
i glance at them real quick, to see if anything is broken are Badly worn

I make a board out of cardboard
on the board i cut an X with whatever is sharp
by each X i mark which hole that the spark plug came out of
then i push the spark plug into the X cut out

That way, i can study how each cylinder is performing

most times i will study them after all the plugs are changed, when i have more time

does it misfire in the upper rpm's at WOT? if it runs fine otherwise, that's a telltale sign of the cam/lifter issue.
Start simple by swapping plugs/coil packs/injectors, each one at a time to another cylinder and test drive to see if the code moves.

Silly goose; there is a slight misfire in the upper rpm’s but otherwise runs okay.

To be sure, follow the diagnosis steps i mentioned to see if the misfire moves to another cylinder.
if it stays on cylinder 2 and you're not interested in fixing it and don't have a problem dumping it on someone else, get rid of the truck now while the issue is only at WOT. you can probably keep the check engine light off driving it easy.
