This is my 2011 ram 2500 with the 5.7 cylinder 3 misfire. Ends up the lifter roller grooved the cam. When they pulled the cam the bearings are trashed. They pulled the oil pan and a rod or main bearing finding metal throughout.

Was supposed to be a simple cam and lifters looking like an engine now.

Just sickening.

The options are not good. Pull the block and wait on a machine shop to go thru everything and take weeks. Or get another reman.

There is absolutely no excuse for your cam and lifter to do that. This engine has been in production for 20 years. Totally unacceptable.

It's plain to see the lifter rotated 1/4 turn and ate the cam up.

Agree a 100% but FCA dont give a rat ass about it,they know it gonna be the owners responsibility for fixing this failure, with their own money.

You've had cam issues for awhile,as you don't wear a groove that deep unless you drove it for quite awhile with the issue. You could of probably got away with just a cam and lifters if you'd addressed the issue as soon as it showed up.Putting off fixing it has bit you in the rear
You're right. Started off with a tick one morning then went away. Couldn't hear any noise from the engine that indicated such a severe amount of damage. I was getting it addressed and went thru the troubleshooting. Couldn't get in to a shop for 2 weeks on a waiting list. Any local garage is covered up with repairs. I baby'd the truck but at the end of the day it was a 3 week debacle.

Jasper doesn't even have an engine available that's
I don't think that you mentioned the MILEAGE

who has been doing the oil changes & were good records kept ?

@Burla !!
75k on the Jasper engine 6 years ago. 5w 20 Mobil 1 full synthetic and filter every 3500 - 5000 miles at Express Oil.

Full rebuild should be done each time. I think FCA knows this but some dealerships take the easy route. The biggest concern I've seen is the number one main bolt is an oil passage. It is full of sludge an shrapnel when I pulled mine.

Not only that but the biggest mistake people make when this type of failure occurs is reusing the intake manifold.

Brand new or rebuilt engine didn't clean the intake manifold or replace? Guess who's learning a $10k lesson.

Pardon my ignorance, but what does the intake manifold have to do with a failed lifter/cam? There's no oil passing through it, only air/fuel mixture, correct?
Or is it a physical thing where it can only used once and won't mate up correctly a second time since these things are not metal anymore?

my 2011 hemi cam/lifters went at 90k miles recently. Luckily the truck was in excellent shape otherwise so I was able to trade it in for a good value. I ended up going with a new ram with the pentastar. It's nice to not have the anxiety of the hemi now at least.
