Anybody ever run Hankook AT2's? I just ordered a set of 285's, load range E (not yet installed). Tell me they're "great" ....ha ha..

Cooper AT3's were my 2nd choice. If they had the rim-protecting bead I would have bought them.

It's not clear to me that Cooper Tires have changed in any way since the purchase by Goodyear. Just because they were acquired, does not mean that there have been any changes in quality at Cooper (one way or the other). We may see evidence of that over time. Maybe at this point Goodyear is learning some things from the Cooper engineers, and making some improvements on the Goodyear side.

I don't know what the strategy was when they acquired Cooper. Did they want to eliminate a competitor? Were they looking go get access to Cooper technology and manufacturing techniques? At this point, the only changes may be merging of things like HR, accounting, inventory management into a single system, which can save money for both companies.

Point is that I think it is too early to conclude that Cooper Tire quality has changed in any way due to the acquisition.

never had any coopers but looked at a '20 laramie 2500 yesterday that only had 19,000 miles on it and the firestone transforce tires were almost worn out. is it normal for 2500's to go thru tires pretty quick or are these tires not good for very many miles

Yes the diesels especially are hard on tires. Very easy to break them loose without even trying.

My old 2500 4x4 CTD was not hard on tires, I got over 65K from factory 17 inch Michelin and put over 35K on a set of Cooper SST that I used for my winter tires, they still has 6/32 left on them when I sold the truck...

I've got 55k on my 295 70 18 cooper st maxx's. They still have 6/18 left according to the printout I got from the dealership a month ago when it was in for a recall.

I think air pressure when empty and loaded along with tire rotation every 7500 miles helps tire life, I always rotate my back tires straight to front and cross front to rear... Some times I was told that was the wrong way to rotate my tires, in fact when I moved to the west coast had a Service manage at one dealer tell me in 30 years he has never had anyone request tires to be rotated that way, he did not understand why I would want it done that way o_O ...

Rearward cross is the way to go I agree. I am surprised the guy you mentioned didn’t know that is the preferred way for a rear wheel drive and a lot of pickups spend majority of their life in 2WD mine included. I do X pattern on my wife’s Yukon XL as it is AWD.

I should also say my Ram I bought used and the tires had something like 45,000 on them already and some of those miles were with warn out shocks. I replaced the shocks when I got it but they were already cupped and chopped pretty bad on the shoulders. I could have ran them longer wear wise but hated the vibrating ride.

This is interesting/disturbing. I've been running them on my 2011 since I tossed my Goodyears. A little bit of noise, but pretty good gas mileage, and very good grip for plowing and/or washboard roads. I drive about 25k a year, and replace them every two years, so ... higher level math ... I get 50k out of them with little trouble. I had a razor knife through one, and a couple leaky valve stems, but I don't think I would blame them on the tires. I'm going to roll the dice and order another set soon. I'll let you know if the ones I get work OK.

Mine are Discoverer AT's (was told they are identical to the AT3's, but molds were changed just for Walmart).

In another 2k miles, I will have put 70k miles on them.

Not bad for a 55k rated tire.

Especially having paid just shy of $700 for the set, with lifetime balance and road hazard.

Those are a great deal. They are not severe service rated either but with how much you save getting them I am cool with that. I was going to get those for my Ram but never in stock on the 18s it seems like. I have them on my 79 F250 and had them on 09 Silverado 2500.
