On my way to work this morning the roads were pretty bad and while minding my own business a vehicle heading southbound lost it in the slush right Infront of me and I slowed up the best I could and turned right to try and avoid him and just clipped his rusted out POS 2005 Chevy Avalanche rust box. The driver door glass shattered and cut me up pretty good but luckily didn't have any stuck in my face or even worse in my eye. They removed a piece from my hand at the emergency room and that was it. The blood on my face looked like I just went 5 rounds in a UFC fight lol. After I came to rest in the ditch I had to climb out of the passenger side of the truck. I think my knee hit the plastic trim under the steering wheel and knocked it loose so I couldn't get my keys out of the ignition or open the door to turn the power off. The engine stalled after impact and I went into the ditch. Both left side of my new general Grabber arctic's were flat along with the damage in the picture. It sucked but could have been alot worse

The ram did its job! Thanks for the kind words everyone, Like you all said at the end of the day its just iron and can be replaced. It happened about 8:30 and about 9:30 my brother and dad showed up tp the tow yard to cover it (im not sure if its going to be a loss so I wanted to keep the interior as dry as I could) and the tow place said to not worry about and they would cover it. At 2pm I had a co worker stop by and it was still wide open and full of snow, Luckily he went and bought a tarp and bungee cords and covered it for me. I wasn't too happy about that. To top it off the other driver was arrested for a suspended license and had a dealer plate (that they couldn't find on the scene) so this should be interesting.

Jim BB, You are right definitely have to find the humor in situations like this, If the engine didn't die I would have powered out of the ditch and drove to work... I was 2 minutes away lol. Little duct tape and air in the tires it will be good to go

Glad you were able to walk away from it. Hopefully it can be fixed. How bad was the rust box Avalanche?

I talked to the claim agent tonight, they are going to access it at the yard in the next couple days. its a 2019, just clicked 77,000 miles so ill have to wait and see what they say. The rust box avalanche wasnt bad considering it came to rest on its side in the opposite ditch. The again it wasn't much to look at before so its hard to tell HAHA. They just towed his from the front, mine had to go to the yard on a roll back

Well I hope you don't have that limited only pay for what you need insurance coverage as I bet other person is either not insured or under insured and why I carry $300K coverage for those who are underinsured...

Glad you came through with only minor injuries! I don’t see the airbags hanging in your pics—did they go off??

Glad to know you walked away with just minor injuries. My bet is your insurance carrier will want to total it.

They did not go off, I dont know its because it was more of a side impact and then a easy slide into the ditch.

As all have said, glad you are ok! It's the classic tale of being to close for "conditions". But I personnal thing a vinyl wrap would look OK.

I'm a little concerned that the hinge threads or nuts didn't hold the door in place and let it bend instead of popping loose, exposing the driver.

A little harder hit, or a more inward hit, may have had a drastically different ending.

Glad you came out in good shape. Hoping for the best with getting the truck fixed or replaced.
