It is common for tire shops that work on trucks 1 ton & larger to use Air Guns to tighten lugs,
They also forget to turn the air pressure down when working on smaller vehicles.
They will never admit that the Gun pressure was set too high , as soon as the tire guy realized what he had done, he reset the pressure.
Then the store manager shows you the gun & the setting
Then they tell you that either there was a fault in the lug, or some other excuse.

It is not worth the hassle to raise a stink, you can't win, unless you were filming it
What I meant was not starting the threads first. I use impacts any time I can, smartly. Im actually hoping I have a right-angle impact wrapped up under the tree…although the wife wasn’t as enthusiastic about that as gift for me. I still have hopes…

We can do math.
It's that New Modern Math they started teaching in the late 60's. WITH the new way they teach math now, kids cannot do math unless they draw a Big Box and a chitload of lines and draw graphs and such.

WHEN my truck goes to dealer for say oil change/tire rotation I have spoken to my SA, also. I NEVA allow them to run the tires on with an air gun. They can snug them, but I stand there and WATCH them use a Torque Wrench set at 130 lbs. I also carry a torque wrench with 22 MM socket too. One time, I saw a "kid" doing something I would not appreciate and he never got to do his stupidity, as I stopped him and had SA come out and fix issue. Just how I am ref truck. AND heck no, running a 6 lug truck with just 4 lugs, well,, maybe real short local run to go to shop and replace before trip. AND as suggested, U may want to check all the lugs and see if the "kid" ran any more on sideways, etc, just saying. ALSO, make sure they replace the lugs too, U gotta watch em, just saying. But, also, your truck and yer Bizness, OP do as U feel OK with.

He corrected himself. It's an 8 lug and he wants to know if he can run with just 6 lug nuts secured. As his title states, it's a 2500 so it has 8 lugs.

Op: 6 you will be fine.

Take it to the same garage every time and you won’t have an issue. I have had lug nut damage, I just reminded them that they put them on last and they change everything with no issue.

How do people get through life? If you have to micro manage the tech you may wanna get another garage or do it yourself.

You have to do this in all areas of life. Anyone who takes a doctor's advise on blind faith is in for trouble.

I feel your pain.
2 months ago I put brakes front & rear on my granddaughters Kia to get through inspection. It has 5 lugs / wheel so out of 20 lugs only 2 were good, the other 18 were cross threaded. No doubt the butthead at the inspection shop she uses put the lugs into the socket then rammed them on with the impact gun without starting them first. Took me quite a bit of time to cleanup the threads with my tap & die set.:flame:

OK, I just do not know enuf on the stressors on 2500 truck, maybe he can, maybe he should not. IMHO, if it was my family traveling with me, I would get fixed quick. But his decision on what he considers safe. Did he say if it was front or rear? BUT my other concern is if knucklehead did this to 2 threads, what about the other 30, just saying.

I just know how they R. They always have the kids doing stuff like tire rotations and oil changes, so I watch sometimes, and sometimes my SA lets me know he has an eyeball. My SA also knows I am **** on this particular item. I had a F 150 Govt Truck that had a flat at 0230 hrs. It took Two of us standing on a pipe run through a breaker bar to loosen those lugs. Not wanna have to go through something like that again, LOL.

230 PSI would be something like a 10 yard dump truck lug nut setting
Using that same PSI on a 9/16th inch stud is a recipe for disaster

A new or just plain lazy tech starting lug nuts on with a wrench instead of their fingers, must have watched too many Nascar pit crew tire changes.

I get all my tire work done by Discount Tire, my choice of stores has 5 lifts inside & another lift outside.

I stand at the garage door to the lift that my truck is on & try to watch everything, but often they will put 2 guys on my Ram & there is no way to watch both sides of a vehicle.
I watch them mostly, because i want my tires rotated using a Modified X Pattern.

The front to back & back to front pattern, does not take into consideration that the right rear tire spins more than any other tire & the right front hits more potholes & curbs than any other tire.

Wow, just wow.

There is no excuse for not starting the lug nuts by hand. And the studs should have been replaced without question.

Years ago, bought a set of tires at Sears for a car I had, and had them installed.

Two weeks later, had a flat. Went to removed the tire, and got a half turn on the nut, then stuck solid. Had to use a BFH to break the stud.

Installed the donut, and promptly went back to Sears where they argued and refused to repair the broken stud after I told them they overtorqued the studs and stretched the threads. They totally denied it.

I said ok, lift it up and remove the other tires. They broke a total of 4 studs on the remaining tires. They were pretty silent after replacing some studs.

Sorry you had to go through this. I will not recommend driving it, and hope for a good outcome getting it fixed.

Yep, the late 90's. Amazing how at one time, Sears had it all.
YEAH, they had complete garages. Did brakes, batteries, oil changes, some mechanical if U were brave enuf. Kinda like Walmart Now. I think the biggest things they did were tires and Sears batteries. SEARS seemed to always stock a lot of Firestone tread back in the "day". May be why I still have these ancient beauties and also a 2/10/50 amp start charger still works, had to use other day for my tractor/Mower.

#1) Never EVER go back to that shop again, other than for them to give you some new lug studs to replace the broken ones. Don't let them install them. Get someone else to. They are obviously incompetent.
#2) re-torque all your wheels. Think on a 2500 they are 130ft/lbs but I am guessing, someone will know here and please correct or verify.
#3) drive as little as possible with any broken lugs... if the others are grossly over-torqued, they could fail any time. (back to #2)

Front or rear, I could replace the fronts in my drive way in about 30 minutes, rear a little longer because you have to remove the caliber and brake disc/drum. Not sure why the shop didn't just replace them probably talking 10 or 15 minutes for them on the front and maybe 30 or so on the real if it's on the lift.
