Yes I drive home 700 mile, But very un happy about it, went i got home I replace all bolt and nut on any wheel they work on,
drive cafefull look at all wheel each stop,
Glad you made it home but really have to question why you would ask the question when it appears you had already decided to drive on 6. People die regulalry from tires coming loose and hitting other vehicles. Guys like you scare the crap out of me.

In the interim, you could have chased the studs with the correct die to clean up the threads and use new lug nuts. replace the studs at the next earliest possible convenience

If that scares you, close the curtains and lock the doors, use door dash and become a hermit. You won’t believe how the world really is.

I am sure your response was intended to be in Jest cuase you are generally a pretty funny guy but: I have driven millions of miles in my life time. I have seen the destruction on our roads caused by the brain dead and people who only care about themselves. Up until 2015, when drug overdoses took over as the leading cause of unintentional injuries and deaths, and those are self inflicted, driving ranked as the top most dangerous thing most people ever do. Driving still isn't far behind..

I'll admit, I've done worse. I drove my Chevy G20 3/4 ton van with 2 of 5 lugs gone. I drove it 5 miles to the closest repair shop. No problems! Those were different times though.

Had tires rotated on my '14 PW today and the shop cross threaded/stripped two studs on one wheel.
Have to leave tomorrow on a 700 mile drive. Not loaded or doing any towing.
Would you drive it on 6 lugs?
As long as they on each side of wheel not a issue 1500s only have 6 lugs.

Any tire shop worthy of being called one will/would correct that error without having to raise a stink. But for the ones who try to slip it by as being a problem for the customer to correct--refuse to move the vehicle until they correct their screw-up. Usually if you threaten to lawyer-up, they will get it right. If they are unwilling to do anything, follow through on your threat. Then, after they have corrected their screw-up, file a report with the BBB. If they will do it once, you can bet they will do it again if they can get by with it. I'm not big on the lawyer thing, but sometimes you have to use dynamite to clear a clog!

You have to do this in all areas of life. Anyone who takes a doctor's advise on blind faith is in for trouble.

Your articles above is why I refused to let the ARMY work on my back. Was afraid of what parts I would lose, lmao.

Ended up not needing to make the decision. My DIY thread chaser saved the day
A trip to OReilly got me a standard M14-1.5 lug nut; cut it in half...

...clamped it down on the good threads, added a little cutting oil, and backed it out through the bad threads...

...and viola'

I had recently (5K miles ago) bought new tires at a different shop. Both shops pointed fingers at the other. It's pretty obvious who's lying. If the tire dealership had screwed up the threads the lugs would have never threaded on fully. That fact alone makes me not want the rotation shop to touch the truck again, even to fix their screwup.

I no it's not the right "PC" thing to say but driving on 6 lugs shouldn't cause an issue. My biggest concern would be the condition of the other lugs. As mentioned several times above I can't believe the shop wouldn't just fix the issue. Not like it should be hard to find the right studs available at any autoparts stores, or worse case buy a whole hub assembly. If anything at least run a thread chaser down it for now....also can't imagine a decent tire shop not having a set of these around just for this reason or simply cleaning up cruddy or rusty studs.
In regards to using an impact I always hand start the nuts to make sure they aren't cross-threaded and then run them on with an impact. Also always do the final tightening and check by hand. It's really not hard to use an impact and not overtighten lug nuts even if running high air pressure. Just don't set there and let the impact do 20 ugga-duggas on the nut. I have a decent feel for my impact and generally when I put a torque wrench on them it takes less than a 1/4 turn to hit spec.

I use a DeWalt 899 battery 1/2" impact with the 3 place switch on it. I hand start the lugs and then snug them up with the lowest setting. I give them all a couple of light hits with setting 2 and use a torque wrench from there. I never liked to use an impact to tighten things before this dewalt. The 3 position switch has been a nice feature.
