So they just opened a new Sheetz store in town here and I stopped there today for fuel. Not certain but think all grades were the same price and they had ethanol free that I think was 90 octane and it was also the same price. Almost went with that but wasn't certain it was what I was thinking it was. I run ethanol free in our boat but have bought it at a different station and it is clearly marked 'recreational only'. Anyone familiar with Sheetz and have run it? I know I would get better fuel economy with it.

Looks like it's the same stuff > https://www.sheetz.com/ethanolfree

No idea about Sheetz but I buy ethanol-free fuel anytime I can get it at a reasonable price. On trips back home to visit relatives (1k miles each way) I definitely see the difference in fuel mileage.

best,

You typically see Ethanol free in high marine use areas. Are you near a big boating recreational area?
nope. The closest marina is about 15 miles away. Doesn't sound far but there are many other places to get it closer to the marina.

Yeah, definitely get that when you can. There's a remote place I camp sometimes and all they carry is ethanol free 92 octane. My truck loves that stuff for sure.

Do be careful with the "recreational use only" as that could mean it's not taxed and you can get in trouble if caught using in a vehicle on the road. In my area there is "farm diesel" available. It's a different color and police will randomly pull people over and take a dip in your tank to check the color. I've heard it's a pretty big fine if you get caught evading the taxes.

Yeah a friend of mine got busted for off road diesel in his truck once. Big fine...lol

Ethanol free up this way is usually 91 octane. Doesn't matter what you use it in up here....

In the Kansas City area a lot of gas stations have 91 octane with no ethanol. It's been harder to find in Denver, but some Maverick stations have 87 I think with no ethanol. I mainly use it for power equipment here, but used to run it in my cars all the time when I could get premium. It's not an off road only like off road diesel.

Canada has mandated all gasolines to have 10% ethanol in them. Our prime minister is an idiot who thinks he can singlehandedly save the world through his climate change fixation.

I'm with you on the dumba$$. Was this a recent blunder/maneuver?

I've always used Costco & MacEwen Premium fuel for home stuff like the chainsaw, generator, lawn tractor, etc because it doesn't have ethanol. Or it didn't the last time I checked.

When I talked with the distribution manager at MacEwen, he said all the pumps may have the 10% ethanol sticker but the Premium blend was definitely without.

I'm convinced my neighbor killed his Husqvarna chainsaw with ethanol crap gas.

https://www.pure-gas.org

I found this site that lists ethanol-free stations in Canada & USA. I don't see MacEwen listed though. I'll see if I can chase down the distribution manager again because I need fuel soon'ish and MacEwen is much closer than Costco. :-/

There are 48 stations listed for Alberta and 5 in Calgary.

Gasoline engines can run anything that meets the octane requirements. The rec. only sticker might be to satisfy politicians.

Let's not have any more political chatter be introduced to this thread.

Not necessarily. e85 could be dangerous to my engine. Not being that familiar with the enthanol free I wanted to be sure it wasn't anything other than what I thought it was

Nobody's voiding any warranties over E15, same reason they can't deny your warranty claim for a headlight just because you put a lift kit on the truck. The burden is on the manufacturer to demonstrate that the fuel caused the failure and E15 is approved for all gasoline vehicles post 2012
Anyway if 'yall don't want all that corn juice I'll take it. Nearest E85 station is over 100 miles away and there are no E15 or blender pumps anywhere in my state that I know of, certainly none in this corner of it.

Recently took a trip from Cali to AR to visit family. Found a station with ethanol free so I filled up for S&G's.....really wasn't much difference, damn sure wasn't worth the price difference.

Gonna give it a try if the price is still the same when I need fuel. We have a place here that has fuel perks and we have about $3/gallon off and they expire so have to use that next time around. The fill up after that I will try it if price is still the same. I only go through about 1 tank/month in my truck since I work from home.

That's absolutely not true but I will guess that statement is just some good old Canadian conservative delusion. 87 and 89 will generally contain "up to 10%" ethanol, 91 and 94 will be ethanol free in Canada. The Ram was designed to run on 89 for the V8 and 87 for the 6 and can handle up to 15% ethanol max. Since ethanol is an octane booster for low quality fuel I personally use 91 ethanol free in my 2020 Ram and do see a bit better performance and mileage. Always choose ethanol free if its an option on the lower grade fuels.

For small engines: ATVs, chainsaws, lawn equipment, snowmobiles, etc., anything that might sit unused for a while, non-ethanol is a must.
