I'm a little stumped on an issue with my 2013 Ram with a 5.7 Hemi. The check engine light started flashing a few days ago when I got on the gas hard. My scanner showed a P0303 - Misfire Cyl 3. Of course my first thought was cool and plugs. I swapped coil and plugs out today. After a test drive, it is doing the same thing.

Using my OBD diagnostic, i was able to get some interesting data:
The PWM for Injector 3 seems to be fine with normal driving. When i accelerate hard, the value dropped to 0 and stayed there for a little bit. During this time, i can feel the truck running a little rough. Eventually the PMW went back to normal.

Again, this issue only happens if i accelerate hard for a few seconds. I'm thinking it is a fuel related issue. Does this make sense? Any ideas of what I could check to narrow down the problem?

Cam Lob, this is how the usually go out. Under load shows up first, I'd take it easy and use a thick oil if you are trying to make it last. You can take over cover and see how the valve is traveling on 3 compared to the others. No tick? Maybe it is injector, dunno man the usual suspect is cam lob.

Like burla said likely a cam lobe. Pull your valve cover off and take a look, do an oil change and cut the oil filter apart look for shiny bits. Go easy on it and save your money for a new cam, engine or truck. Hopefully it's fuel but sorta doubt it because if the injector was going bad you'd think it'd do it consistently.

That's unfortunate news. I guess my next step is pulling the valve cover to inspect. I just did an oil change last week.

I honestly have not had the HEMI tick in a couple years. I switched to Pennzoil Ultra Platinum a few years ago and the noise seemed to dissapear.

I did pull my oil analysis results from a test i did back in the summer. Nothing seemed to stand out on there of abnormal wear.
