It’s to heat the oil faster and cool it as well if you are towing or anything but it’s useless for cooling as it’s very small. . I just removed mine from my 2017 and oil pressure went up by 2psi. Oil temp warm is down by 10°f as well.

I installed a kit originally from transdapt and switched over to the improved racing kit when I removed the heater assembly.
Wow glad I saw this, I was thinking of putting this on my truck to lower oil temps while towing. Guess I won't do that now....

I use a washer bottle cut as shown in this thread. 0 mess taking the filter off now. I've tried the plastic bag and ended up making more of a mess than without it.

Yeah thats the route I'm gonna go, seriously looking at this kit

That's a good kit, hard to add a front mount cooler to it though if you wanted to do that.

The Improved Racing parts offer a remote filter mount with a thermostat built in for a cooler. But you do have to put together the kit yourself.

Thanks I’ll give that a shot.

Ram couldn't of put the oil filter in a worse position than they did really. It's like they wanted to see how dirty one could get just trying to remove that oil filter. I bet many of them laugh at the complaints they have gotten throughout the years having the worse placement probably ever.

With that said having a oil change come up I wanted to see your recommended method of not spilling a single drop. I did get the Fumoto drain valve and am looking forward to that. From what I have seen there is a couple methods as far as removing that dreaded filter goes.

1. A couple quart ziplock baggies. Simply first loosen filter then put baggie around and loosen more so oil starts draining in baggie. Seems this is still kind of a PITA because hard to angle that filter at all and still seems to spill a little oil?

2. From what I can see best method is that XL Oil Udder. Have any of you used that for our particular 4th gen RAM's and does that truly do the trick?
I use a piece of a gutter trimmed down so it only had a 3/4" lip and it was 3' long

The oil udder was a total waste of money for me! (2019 4x4) It helps on our Suburban. I use a gallon zip lock bag and have had good results. I did have one filter that stuck and the only I got if off was using a filter removal device that I had gotten for a Harley...

I've bought the XL Oil Udder and was planning on using it last oil change but I need to get a hose to attach to it. Seems like it'll work well, along with the tried and true zip lock bag to actually get the filter the rest of the way out once it's drained.

I tried to make the gallon bottle funnel somebody posted one time, couldn't get that to work right. Tried to use cardboard or something to funnel oil, didn't work. In the end, its just easiest to keep the drain pan under the filter and let it just spill in there. One towel to clean up the oil mess on the truck and you are on your way.
