So your DMV is saying you can’t register because you have an open recall. That’s a little much… why don’t you just ask for another temp tag until this is completed.

California, you elected the idiots. Stop complaining.

Yeah, CA has some crazy rules like that. I sold my buddy a motorcycle and he had to have a recall fixed before he could transfer it to his name.

There are a few of us that are normal because we are implanted California residents. Sadly we don’t outnumber the ones who vote in the ‘others’. Someday we will be able to jump off the sinking ship :D

If it were me, I would research the actual part(s) needed for the recall and attempt go go to a junkyard to salvage one off of a brand new wreck...preferably the correct part. Take it to the dealership and tell them you managed to find one (if you did) and demand they fix it ASAP. If they dont agree to the repairs, then you've done your due diligence...and then I guess its time to trade down, lawyer up or both. If it has an open recall and cant be registered, they will have to sell that vehicle at a loss -even if they legally can at all- since it is not roadworthy. If they do, they can get into a lot of trouble, especially with the DMV and the vehicle failing emissions in California. AFAIK that goes into the vehicle history report and stays with it for its lifetime.

If Im wrong, Id like to know why...

If you live in CA, you should only drive a 60s or 70s automobile, it's appears easier than dealing with newer issues

Wouldn't count on that - CA is forcing businesses to upgrade old, but still usable equipment to modern emissions standards. In effect, they are forcing owners to abandon old equipment. I lived that stuff on old diesels. Cars are next.

Great point; I didn’t think about Tesla when writing up the reply yesterday. Every company has its dirty laundry but every Tesla owner I know was not happy with the product quality issues such as misaligned panels, bumpers, paint condition etc.

All those issues were resolved quickly post-purchase and they had tesla loaners, not a substandard rental from junk cars ’R’ us.

Personally, The love for a battery car is another story and for another thread. I love my CTD :D
Time will tell if Tesla is going to make it on the big stage. Even John Delorean had a brief hay-day.

They can't "sell the vehicle at a loss". If they buy it back due to a recall, they either have to destroy it or give it to a school. Then they get a write-off.

Lack of customer care is the sole reason that I will NEVER buy MoPar again. They will NEVER acknowledge problems with their product nor accept liability for them. Their customer care sucks, pure and simple.

I don’t have any issue with the service. Have you tried another dealer? Attitude determines a lot of how situations play out.

It is combination of California "nanny state" regulations and poor Ram service. I would either:
1. Move out of California or
2. Establish a presence in another adjacent state that does not require vehicle inspections and register the vehicle there or
3. Sell or trade the vehicle for one that can be registered in California. I traded a 2016 Ram 1500 Ecodiesel with an open EGR recall that could not be repaired due to lack of parts.

I am liking the GMCs better now, especially the new Denali Duramax. The 3.0 liter Duramax is an amazing inline 6 diesel that seems to have solved the emissions reliability problems with innovative design. For instance, the EGR pulls in hot recirculated exhaust gas after the SCR/SDPF filter eliminated the soot buildup problems in the intake manifold.

You have been more than patient and have documented all the "no service" from Dodge. Is it possible to trade the vehicle? The only other three options I can think of is to ask the dealer for a loaner until your truck is fixed. Or park your truck in front of the dealership with a huge lemon sign on the truck door while you picket the place with a sandwich sign that complains about the dealer. Or talk to a lawyer who specializes in these type cases who doesn't need a retainer $$$ and gets paid $$$ only if you win the lawsuit. I wish you luck and you can be assured I will never buy a Dodge.

The next thing I would do is call a Congressman and get them to look into it.The Recall system is Federal

Run into similar no service no repair issues with the dealers in my area. Here's a contrasting story for you:

My wife has a GMC Yukon which recently had a tail light fail (these are LED and have some internal circuitry). GM has a TSB open on them for her year (a "silent recall" if you will). She calls up local dealer, gets appointment 3 days later. Goes in, they don't have the part. Service writer says he'll order them, sets up appointment 1 week later.

Being used to MOPAR customer service, when she came home and told me what happened I didn't have much faith in a positive outcome (to put it mildly).

Well her next appointment came and guess what? They had the part! In fact, the service writer ordered both sides and replaced them both even though nothing was wrong with the passenger side!!

I've gotten a lot less concerned by pretending my Ram is a 10 year old used car with no warranty. It makes the dealer support and reliability fit with the experience (my last DD was 23 when I got rid of it so I'm pretty used to handling things this way).

12-6-2022 I call Ram Cares and speak with a woman in which I explain the previous events, give her my case number, and ask her to have the Case Manager, Kathy, to call me back. NO PHONE CALL WAS RETURNED.
The rep was likely left wondering who used the name "Kathy", although a case number should have answered that question. ;)

Seriously, some dealers just do not have their stuff together when it comes to service. The good news is there are many dealerships that provide excellent customer service.

Get the part number you need from several sources, making sure you have the right one. Order the part yourself. Fight it out with mopar for reimbursement later. Get the recall done.
