Am I being a wimp about U connect?

Got 2022 classic Warlock with the Uconnect 5 , 8.4 screen no nav . It works sort of . It keeps dumping presets , steering wheel controls for calls and vr don't work right , but like most things that are new and improved are rushed to market with insufficient testing . Shove it out , hope it works and if it doesn't they will eventually fix it at the consumers inconvenience.

I'm in Canada and one of the countries largest cell phone carrier updated it's infrastructure wiped out 911 , debit machines crashed , no cell or data service for days , their response , sorry about that and blah, blah, blah.
Same here. My 2019 DT 8.4 has given me no problems so far. All the problems I hear about are with the 12 inch version.

Dusty

I gotta agree updates aren't always the cure all , usually screw something else up . In the case of the Uconnect 5 it's either a major firmware update , an exorcism with lots of holy water or a hammer lol. I love my new truck this is just annoying, iI can still drive it like I stole it .LMAO.

Can you opt out of updates or are they automatic.
Good question, on my 2018 Limited with the 8.4, the OTA update (when I saw one) would ask if I wanted to “update now” or at a later time. I never saw it allow me to completely just say no. So that makes me think it would do it at a later time with or without my input.

I just know back when Apple constantly bugged me about updating my Macs I never did it till it was out for a month or so. Heck I still don't bother with the phone or iPad. Let sleeping dogs lie.

I’ve got a ‘22 1500 Bighorn crew cab, 4x4, 6’4” bed. It’s got the 8.4 touch screen. I’ve had a couple issues. 1) Once at a stoplight, unknown to me, it put itself into Park. I tried to accelerate, i was surprised when all I did was rev the engine. It was difficult to get it out of park, took perhaps a full minute. 2) Sometimes the backup camera will show black when reversing, other times it stays on when in drive, only for about 10 seconds. 3) Sometimes the touch screen will not respond to touch. Problem #1 is a scary issue, the others are only annoyances. Other than that, I absolutely love this truck. It’s got a lot of power and is a very comfortable ride, so very much better than any other truck out there…and I have tried every one of them.

I'm at a loss. Can you elaborate on what in the H possible reason a screen would have placing the vehicle in park? I can see instances where that could be downright dangerous or frightening considering how antsy people are now. I can see that happening now at one of the on ramp lights on the expressway where every person behind you knows you'll be stopped for not even two seconds before it goes green again.

#1. Something funny going on but nothing to do with U-Connect
#2. For the part about staying on for 10 sec when shifting from reverse to drive, that can be changed in the settings and turned off if desired. Can't speak to why it shows black in reverse

I'm hoping to buy this spring and while I am quite comfortable around computers, this would be my first vehicle with a screen. Truly, but for the fact that it's nearly impossible to avoid the U connect upgrades I probably would. At any rate this component seems to be the one I hear the most horror stories about. I could not care less about maps and Serius but it seems that so many commonly used functions are also controlled via the touch screen. I guess I am having a hard time getting a handle on why this component has been and is still popping up with so many problems.
My 2018 2500 has a demon in the screen. it will change stations at will and pop from screen to screen. Dodge dealer can't tell me anything without looking at it, but said probably need to replace. complete ********. should be a recall on this product.

It is a good question but the answer would be more interesting if there was one.

I took delivery of a new 2022 about a year ago with the 12" Uconnect screen. I've had zero issues with it, everything works all the time including wireless Andriod Auto. I did follow the advice I read on the forums, and shortly after getting the truck, I did a hard reset on the Uconnect system.

I can't quite put a finger on why some have issues. I think there is some failure of the hardware but mostly I think people make an assumption about how the system works and when it doesn't work the way they think it should, they blame Uconnect. I read the Uconnect manual and discovered many ways to use it. Is this the reason I don't have trouble with it because I read the manual to learn how it works instead of assuming? I don't know.

I don't think so, at least for most cases. Not a Ram, but my wife's 21 Pacifica has the uConnect 5 and their premium head unit. It's been pretty buggy, and it gets worse as time goes on. 2nd star case just got opened on it. First one, we had to leave it at the dealer for 3 weeks while they tried (and failed) to figure it out. It's throwing an "take me to the dealer" message when she starts the truck now. Has become very slow to boot up. Does a bunch of screwy stuff. She's pretty frustrated with it. And I did read the manual on it. Many hard and soft resets done.

It almost has to be hardware/manufacturing since many have no issues. If it were software, I think the issues would be much more widespread.

The 12" uConnect 5 system in my 22 2500 has been pretty good so far. A couple of small issues, but compared to my wife's issues, I'll take it.

I had the option of getting my '19 Rebel with the 8.4" screen or the 12" screen and chose the 8.4" screen, simply because it still had the physical controls for radio, climate control, etc., which were eliminated with the 12" screen. I had visions of trying to select options with gloves on in the winter and either the screen not reading or me picking everything but what I wanted. Of course, I had to get the Alpine system instead of the Harmon Kardon but, truthfully, almost 5 years in I'm not complaining (either the Alpine is not as bad as many say or too many years of gun fire and aircraft carrier catapults has left me unable to tell the difference!)
Gunfire not get me as bad as being 150' away from an Acft pushing close to afterburner to get out of a hardstand in a hurry, and all we had were the "Famous" orange ear plugs.

I like having hard buttons instead of relying on a touch screen. On my ‘18 Limited with the 8.4, I have a row of buttons for various functions. They are also available in the radio for same functions, but that involves a few motions to get to where you want.
I am waiting for my new ‘22 1500 to arrive, and I will have the 12” screen. I didn’t really want that, but certain options required me to pick a “package” and it throws in the 12” screen.
So I guess I just need to get used to the new radio controls.
I have a 12 inch screen. Had problems with radio untill new update came thru

Can you use a phone? If yes then U connect is not an issue.

Wat we were issued, and I bet U are aware, they did not help much. When that friggin FB-111 pulled out of hard stand, OMG, not help when behind Starlifters or a FC-135 when they kick off a quik start either, LOL. C-5's, we were a lil further away, but then those GE's sound different, higher whine, may explain my Tinnitus, lol.
