I get "de-contenting" to save money and increase margins, but this it not a good idea IMO. De-content electrical and tech parts, they save thousands. De-content a plastic cover and save a just few dollars? Not worth the impression it makes.
Or they can make 192$ selling it separately psh.

I get you, but there's got to be some 'like new' out there. I wouldnt want a crappy looking one either.

Can't imagine how much the stealer would charge. Well, I could imagine, don't want to think about it.....lol

Well, I'm a little late. Ouch!

BET FCA not care about the impression they make, thinks it all comes down to $$$$$. Just like they not having complete rear wheel wells on most trims, why not just put in and charge the extra $80, geez.

All about the benjamins, for sure. The greed factor for the most part, esp with covid.

Not saying there's not been legitimate shortages, but mostly greed, IMO.

Seems like no one orders spares and keeps them on a stock shelf anymore. They all go and wait till they need and order a specific part, then U R at the mercy of supply chain. About only thing ordered and kept stocked like plugs, filters, stuff like that. If U need something more specific, good luck. I AM still awaiting on my E fan for MY 19 truck, ordered last February, lol. All IMHO ...

It looks like you have a "classic",it'll have both a mechanical clutch fan,and if you look inside the shroud it'll also have an electrical fan on the back side of the radiator. It's a bit tough to see with the shroud on,but it's the A/C fan

I will have to take a look, sounds like a interesting set up, so the ac has its own E fan. That way if it dies you can still drive!

NO. The AC is a secondary fan blowing air over the condenser to help with AC, NOT to cool motor.

Lots of guys remove the clutch fan and replace the factory e-fan with the earlier V6 fan,and then there's some of us,who remove the clutch fan and shroud, and just run the OEM electric fan,but to do either, you should tune the truck and then reset the on/off parameters of the electric fan

The practice of omitting parts from year to year and model to model is called "decontenting" and, despite the current market or any other market experienced in the past, it's a way to increase the margin earned by the manufacturer when the vehicle is sold.

Chrysler/Dodge did the same thing with trunk lamps, underhood lamps, one vs. two gas struts to support the hood, etc...

I bought a new 2003 Dodge Durango SLT 4x4 with the 360 CID engine. A friend had bought a new 2002 Dodge Durango 4x4, also with the 360 CID engine.

After comparing vehicles, I realized Dodge had deleted the following items on my 2003 (compared to the 2002 model):

Rub strips on the painted roof for the roof rack.
One of two cargo lights in the rear hatch panel.
One of two sun-visor lamps (both visors).
The hood insulator pad.

The 2003 model did come with new rear-wheel disc brakes, as the 2002 model had drum brakes. I bought the 2002 hood pad and installed in on my 2003 - the holes for the plastic clips were present, and it was easy to install.

I notice the same kind of small differences between my 01 Tahoe and some one else’s 2003. As of the 360, always wanted one of those 98 limited grand cherokees that came with one. Mmm

Not sure if this is a "decontent" issue or a supply chain issue. The low inventory of new cars on the lot since Covid is directly caused by delays and issues getting certain parts in. Some parts are critical to making the vehicle actually run (i.e. the "chips" needed by Ford) while some can be non-critical items such as engine covers. Another possibility is that the same company that makes the engine covers also makes some other component on the vehicle that uses the same raw material and same manufacturing process (in this case plastic that is probably injection molded). Let's say that other piece is some interior trim or other very obviously visual piece. You look at priorities and say let's shift all the raw material to make the interior trim that everybody will see and leave out the engine cover. I'm not saying for 100% sure that is what is going on, but decisions along those lines have been made by car manufacturers for the last year or two. Are you going to let a $50k truck sit behind the plant collecting cobwebs and dust because you don't have an engine cover for it or decide to go sell it? They make decisions on what items may be acceptable to leave off a vehicle and I'm sure a cosmetic engine cover was on of the first to be deemed okay to leave off. I know tons of people who probably have never opened the hood on their vehicle, and even if they did wouldn't notice this.
Another thing that is funny is that plastic cosmetic engine covers weren't even common on vehicles 20ish years ago. I remember people and car magazines making fun of manufacturers for putting "stupid pieces of plastic" over the engine, and it was common for people to yank off the covers and throw them away. We have since come full circle......

GM began putting two engine covers on the C5 (1997 - forward) Corvettes. One on each engine side, over the valve covers. The covers were black plastic, with no sound insulation, but had red “Corvette” lettering. On the later C5 Z06 models, red covers were used.

Then, I thought the covers looked good and gave the top of the engine a finished look.
