Received my 2nd analysis. Truck since new mostly PUP 0W40 and WIX XP (a couple of early OEM changes were PP 0W40 and OEM filter). At 65K went to RP 20-500 and 16 OZ of Lubeguard. Can't complain of the results and overall engine performance. At 70K repeated PUP 0W40, RP 20-500, and 16 OZ of Lubeguard. I'll post those results @ 75K. I have used up my stash of PUP as I had a few cases on hand. Thinking of staying with PUP, RP filter, and the 1/2 bottle of Lubeguard. May go to PUP High Mileage at next change if they come out with a 0W40.

Another example why 5w30 can be a good choice for the 6.4 if 0w40 is, if it is a stout 5w30. I'm not saying you should change, you shouldnt, just saying the viscosity is what it is. Seams like the oil is serving you well imo, maybe the wear can be slightly better, but for a hemi no issues for sure, thanks for posting. I would say your engine is a better example then the average 6.4 based on the small sample size we see here with 0w40 pup, maybe even amoung the best we see. I wouldn't change a thing.

EDIT- double roast me because I'm an idiot and didn't attach the pdf the first time

Roast me: The Mobil HM was what I had on hand last time, this time I have 7qt of Mobil EP and another Fram XG2. Currently sitting at 5k on this change, will be changing it in the next couple days.

Moving forward, I've bought 10qt of Valvoline Advance.

Where have you found the Valvoline?

Was this API SP? When I try an oil I try to remember to take a VOA so I can see if it sheared down on the UOA. I'd be concerned on this one for high temp, hilly towing.

I recall seeing the move from API SN--->SP pushing viscosities downward within SAE vis grades, all in the holy grail of fractions of a percent of friction reduction for EPA CAFE standards.

No idea what it was, had it on hand for some reason. Next up is Mobil EP, then Valvoline Advance will be on the shelf.

Do you still have the jugs? Judging by the moly level it may have been their new formula. If it says triple action formula its the new formula

Sounds like Exxon is freeing up Mobil somewhat to be Mobil again? Even when they were Mobil, they drove me crazy with constantly changing recipes.

Normally I'm all for continuous improvement, but there's also such a thing as overwhelming people with constant change without a breather!

Another report attached.

Last change was PUP 5w30 with MOS2. Prior changes were with Castrol Titanium Synethic 5w30. Not sure if the PUP is 'better' that the Castrol - the wear numbers look similar and the Moly was even less. TBN was less after a similar amount of miles as well; meaning the additive pack wasn't as roboust as the Castrol. Not sure if I'll go back to the Castrol or another oil the next change...we'll see. :)

Very interesting uoa, it doesnt post your location but it is interesting on your uoa's that appear to have been done right after winter the wear is heavier.

Sample date feb/2-23 IRON 20
Summer nov 22 IRON 8
jul 22 IRON 10
march 22 IRON 36.

Do you live in cold location?

I didnt even read their comments, which when I went back and read it is why I like blackstone so much. They don't miss a step.

Thanks for sharing. Viscosity was a bit less too. Are these all API SP oils?

To test if PUP was their traditional "low wear" oils, compare it to what last winters change was. What oil was in the truck when iron was 36? Anyhow, to properly judge your truck, you would need to run an oil for a year against another oil for a year due to this situation. It might be time to look at 0w30's as well for winter, that is what they are for.

Last years oil winter wear was 36, then PUP was 20 iron this winter? A simple oil change bought you less iron x16, I call that a win.

What is filter? Filter always the same?

I'm in central Ohio....not the most tropical climate. :)

Last OCI had a Mopar SRT filter; prior to had a M1; and prior to had Royal Purple. Tried to stay with the SRT filters until turned on to the RP ones; but even the SRT filters were unavailable for sometime during the covid supply chain shortages; so I defaulted back to M1. (FWIW, the truck had a steady diet of M1 Full Syntheic 5w20 and M1 filters from 300 miles until 75k; when I moved to Castrol and SRT filters, curtousey of this thread).

This OCI has a Royal Purple filter again (and five more sitting on the shelf), so I've stocked up for a about 2 years.

The high iron tracks winter usage. I had a lab report form about 75k miles that showed the same higher iron trend. It appears to be the winter cycle...and I guess from the cold starts.

PUP is in the truck currently. I think the next report will be telling if the iron drops again as it did the prior three winters.

The PUP is an API-SP oil. The Castrol was API-SN.
