Good Morning Rammers, for the past year I have noticed a musty smell in my truck. I could never find the cause and It never occurred to me it could be a water leak inside the cab.

Fast forward to me lurking on this forum for a while and I noticed a lot of post regarding the 3rd brake light leaking. So I got to work. I looked for water stains on the headliner (Tan) No spots so just to be sure I lifted the rear seat and found the cargo area is wet. (I never use it so never thought to check.) So I know 100% water is coming from somewhere.

My question is, could it still be the brake light if there are no visible water stains in the headliner?

Truck is at the dealer for repair, My thought was that it was the Vent on the driver side rear (between the bed and the cab.) Dealer jumped right on the brake light.

I would love to hear your thoughts and any advice you could give.

Do you have the power sliding rear window, if the plastic frame is cracked you will have water on the rear floor, if the cab vents behind the rear seat (rubber flappers) are bent you will have water there, is all your wetness just in the back? usually when the third brake lamp gasket leaks you will have water stains on the headliner.

I've had both on my 19 classic. Break light was replaced under warranty and headliner cleaned. Got the leak under the driver side rear seat. Bought the vents but haven't gotten around to changing them yet. Hopefully it will fix the issue when I get around to it.

When I first got my 2014 I filled the under seat storage compartment with water leaking in the cab but no stains on the headliner. On the third repair attempt the flew in someone from Chrysler and said the rear window was defective because there are drains in it that were plugged. Well now they ended replacing the headliner and floor as well because they screwed that up. Fast forward to now...water stains on headliner. Tore into it to replace the third brake light gasket and the asshats "made" a new gasket 7 years ago. Buy your new gasket from Detroit Muscle Technologies. It's really a very good one, better than factory. 20220508_111337.jpg20220508_111331.jpg20220508_111347.jpg

There are 5 ways to get moisture in the rear seat area

It is not likely, but if the rubber roof strips begin loosening up, those seams can leak just above the rear widow

The infamous 3rd brake light

The rear sliding window frame can break, usually happens on 2019 Rams

The rear sliding window drain tubes, can get debris in one or both of them & the water over flows & runs down the inside of the cab

Another point of entry is the rear cab vents

There may be 2 possible ways water intrusion can happen
people have mentioned that the rubber flaps fall off
But there seems to be a better explanation,
The whole vent does not make a good seal tight with the cab on the inside of the cab

Watch this video closely at the beginning, the ruler

Has anyone have problems with water under drivers carpet ? I’m wondering if it’s a pinch weld problem or windshield even after I had the windshield tested

Far more likely door molding trim.
Clean door jams, the dry completely. Garden hose with someoen inside truck with paper towles. just run water for 30 seconds or so one one spot, have indie man chedk with towel. You will find the cause soon enough.

Thanks I think it’s the pinch weld hope it’s easy fix first ram and im disappointed and exhausted from this. It’s been six months of chasing it around. Dealership is about to stop helping me even after me reporting it in the first 30 days. Don’t know where to turn with out spending a lot of money.B204631F-5A95-43A6-87BB-B7CEEA37C40A.jpeg

So the top photo is where you can tell where it started coming out then over time rusted clogging the gap and bottom is where it’s coming out now

I watched as one person unscrewed the lower screw in the drivers side Grab Handle & showed a Service Adviser the water coming out of the screw hole

Do you happen to recall what warranty? When I called the dealership they said this would fall under the basic bumper to bumper 3 yr/36,000 mile. And I was past that.

Thanks in advance,
Dan

I have the 2019 big horn. My leak is only getting wet around the rear passanger side ram bin. Thats where the water bulds up. My cargo hook is rusting and corrosion is visible on bolt securing it. I removed the whole bin dried out my truck. I put a silicone sealant down around the bin and sealed the bolts. Still water made its way in this last rain storm. any ideas?? Would this come from the brake like or rear window?
