KODACHROME WOLF If you do buy some parts for that AC / HEATER BOX. Will you please post where you find the parts. part numbers, & maybe even cost. I just had my 1988AC System supposedly fix. last late summer .& Even though I managed to find a nice box. My AC was just slightly better than having the heater blowing . SO I'm going to take it back in in a few weeks & see if the young man whose working on my 88 can determine what it's issue may be this Spring . But some part numbers & locations would sure be helpful.
I bought one item from E=Bay & He found the box a friend of his.
I believe I had to pay $100.00. Rather high in my opinion but . Then during the winter I got a call from my little tech friend & He say .. The guy that owned the cab he got the AC Box from wants to give me the old cab ... It did have a few parts still in it. like a good sliding glass window. SO I got it free. & Now about 3 weeks later He's brought both doors into the tech
& Dropped them off for me. One looks perfect .. SO NOW MY $100.00 BOX LOOKS RATHER CHEAP..
HIS LANDLORD WANTS HIM GONE.
Darn the LUCK.
THANKS

I'll see about getting the Chrysler number off the HVAC box, but as far as I know it's just the standard A/C and Heater box for at least the 1980s D/W trucks. I yanked it out of a '86 W-150 at my local wrecking yard. I think it cost maybe $40-$50.

I'm not overly familiar with these trucks at all (or Dodges in general), but with all my vehicles, I try to learn their nuances. This truck will be a fun learning curve.

I know the A/C uses vacuum heater valve to reduce flow to the heater core, and I'm considering using a dual inlet/outlet style as a replacement when I do the hoses so that when the A/C is engaged, the valve just cuts off flow to the core entirely and loops it back to the engine. That'll probably help A/C performance by eliminating the extra heat from the box.

I ordered effectively all the parts for the A/C system on my truck, so if you're curious...

*A/C Compressor (New) - UAC CO0011C
*Condenser - UAC CN3634PFC
*Drier Assembly - UAC RD0049C
*Expansion Valve - UAC EX9414C
*System Oil - UAC RO0900B
*System O-Rings - UAC RS2510

*Part of a Kit: UAC KT1235A - $334.79

Hose Assembly (Compressor to Condenser) - GPD 4811340 - $49.79
Hose Assembly (Compressor to Evaporator) - GPD 4811355 - $56.79
Evaporator Core - FOUR SEASONS 54108 - $75.99
Heater Core - FOUR SEASONS 98619 - $36.79

So parts alone cost $554.15 before tax, tag, and aggravation fees. I've also got to telephone a friend to see about using his A/C machine as well to vacuum and charge the system once I have everything working. I've still got to figure out the A/C pressure switch and capillary switch situation since the new components vary greatly to the originals and will land certain things in different places.

UAC is Universal Air Conditioning. They’re based out of Texas.

GPD is Global Parts Distributor. They’re based out of Georgia.

That said, all the parts I received are manufactured overseas, with the exception of the system o-rings, for whatever reason. :D I’ll be curious to see how nice the fit and finish is on the UAC and GPD parts since I’ve never used them before. At first glance, the parts do at least seem to be of decent quality.

I’m also familiar with Four Seasons parts, since most of their A/C parts were relabeled to Murray for O’Reilly Auto Parts. Never had much issue with those components when I used to sell them.

I bought through RockAuto.

I know some folks have had some issues with them, but so far I've generally had zero issues with them.

Patched the hole in the floor and applied sealer around the patch. Also got "new-to-me" duct work installed to replace the badly melted bits.

I think next time I head back out to work on the truck, I'll apply sound deadner to the firewall and floor area, then re-install the HVAC box to the firewall. Once the dash is all back in place, I'll get the bench out, remove the rest of the old floor material, finish installing sound deadner, and install new vinyl flooring.

Then it'll be all about getting the transmission installed and properly adjusted.

Finally got around to getting some stuff done. Loaded up the wagon and jetted on down to the warehouse.

LE0QnJ.jpg

HVAC box is back in, got the sound deadener applied to the forward floor section, installed the rebuilt carburetor, and pulled the wiper cowl off so I could clean up the linkages and get new bushings.

44HpOl.jpg

Took the instrument cluster and HVAC panel home for a little freshening up. HVAC panel needs to have some reconstructive surgery around the screw holes for the fan speed switch as those have broken away. I would also like to install warm white LED bulbs in the instrument panel and give it a good cleaning.

If I can finish tidying up the interior work in the next visit or two, it'll probably be time to get the truck shoved over to the lift.

Need to find another spare though to roll it on....

The truck has awfully old, dry rotten tires. One let go while I stepped out for lunch this afternoon. The other three aren't any better. It'll have a new set of tires before it leaves the warehouse.

Got my hands on some decent warm white (2700K) LEDs for the instrument cluster. The handful of flood type illumination clusters I've dealt with usually have benefited from new bulbs at a minimum based on use and age, but I wanted something a touch brighter without being hotter.

Gussied up my rims by removing the hideous Ford 7 lug hubcaps and knocked most of the rust scale down. Then some primer and some nice semi gloss black. Also got the tailgate to open with the latch handle. See my post in the DIY section

After a pretty long hiatus, got back to this project.

Crackhead-R-Us was busy up under here. Poor floor pan. I spy their failure though, and what likely resulted in them somehow destroying the original transmission.
BMlmg3.jpg

Huh, a properly tightened bolt, whodathunkit.
O0rsQN.jpg

Took note that when they broke out their torch (again, this is peak dumb), they fried the speedometer cable a bit and looks like some wires in a harness may have gotten damaged a touch. I'll unwrap the loom and inspect further. One of the transmission oil cooler ends was also twisted into a mangled mess. I'll likely take a pipe cutter and wind up just using a small section of transmission oil cooler hose and a barb fitting from the transmission.

I would have slapped the transmission in today, but silly me, I have a neutral balanced converter, not the counter balanced unit for a 360. Ordered a balanced type flex plate so I can just use the existing converter instead of sourcing another one.

Apologies, haven't been around in a minute, so no idea if this will ever help, but I got them on Amazon.
