So I just bought a Ram and programmed the garage door opener. I’ve done this before with Audis and BMWs. With those, you had to have the key on to open the garage door. With the Ram, it opens with no key present. So if someone breaks into my truck in the driveway, they can open my garage. This is a huge security issue. Why do they allow this? Just had to clear the memory and will have to take my remote with me.

No idea so it's only a wild guess. Do you think it's sensing your key fob and figuring it's ok to open the door?

IDK, the key fob is in the house over 50 feet away. But in the BMW and Audi vehicles, the key had to be switched on for the garage door opener to work regardless of where the fob was

Grab some tin foil & wrap your FOB up in it

The FOB can not transmit when it is wrapped in tin foil

Read up on a FARADAY CAGE & FOBs

Do you keep your truck locked? Does it have a factory alarm system? If they're going to break into something wouldn't it be easier to break into your house then the truck?

Professional thieves can open your garage door or break into your home in seconds. The equipment available today can clone key fobs, decipher rolling frequencies, disable electronic locks and then there is always the good old fashioned pry bar. My point is if a criminal wants access to your garage it will not matter if your BMW or your Ram is parked in the driveway.

Pretty sure the OP, is correct you dont need the fob to access the door opener. I guess you could dis-able the opener from inside your house, I know thats a crummy answer. I know on my GDO control panel there is a button to lock the door.

No. HomeLink is disabled when the Vehicle Security system is active. This is discussed in your owner's manual.
Thanks. I somehow missed that. This is different behavior from what I’m used to. I usually leave the truck unlocked at home since I never leave anything in it worth stealing. I’d rather someone open the door to find out nothing is in there instead of breaking a window. Guess I’ll have to keep it locked from now on if I choose to reprogram it.

I guess if I was worried about garage access I would put a wifi enabled switched outlet on the opener. Power down the opener when u are done in the garage.

When I bought my 2016 I had the same thoughts. Found that the system does time out and the garage door opener stops working. BossHogg (post #9) gave the technical description.

I would not suggest doing this. The constant power on/power off will eventually - about 4-ish months - fry the control board in the opener.
It happened to me when an opener was installed on an outlet on the garage light circuit. Every time the lights were turned on the opener would cycle up, then off when the lights were turned off.
One day it stopped working. Maybe flashed the error light, don't remember for sure. I took a stab at replacing a $25-$30 control module vs a $200 opener. Luckily it worked.
THEN I installed an outlet on a non-switched circuit.
Just fyi....

All the vehicals I've had with home link work the way your ram does. My experience includes Chevy, Gmc, Ram and Infiniti.

You might want to look into the Viper DS4 system for alarming your vehicle

My old Silverado was like that. I rewired it to the sunroof or maybe some other key on circuit that was already up in the area by the buttons.

I'm a garage door guy. That was the original way to activate HomeLInk. Now, you will need to have the key to put the vehicle into the accessory or run position in order for the HomeLink to transmit.

My Homelink works no matter what is going on.
I can use my FOB to unlock my Ram & reach up & press the Homelink button for the garage door & it will open or close.
My FOB is the Passive Type, it has to be inserted into the ignition to turn the ignition switch

My Opener is a Craftsman, which is a Chamberlain
