That's a really freak happening. I'll bet you are the only person to ever have that happen. Will be interesting to read the replies you get.
Lol...he is not the only person....I ran over a sweatshirt one time, almost instantly what could only be described as a ****-ton of bricks slapping the underside of the truck....dam thing wrapped around the front of the drives haft ripping/tearing the seal or seal shield(dunno, but it's half gone)looks like a shield my guess...luckily no leak.....firm believer in if aint broke, dont fix it.

Not the 1st time I've heard of something like this . I was watching some car show on TV and during the test drive they ran over some plastic wrap . That took out the front drive axle . Also read a story where a ratchet strap got wound up in the drive shift, took out the universal joints and punctured the gas tank .

If I see a plastic bag go under the truck always check mirror to make sure it came out , just incase .

Not on my Ram, but i own a 1992 Ford Ranger I bought new and ran over a plastic grocery bag on the freeway. I never dreamed a plastic grocery bag could hurt a rear end. Wrong. It wrapped around the front seal and melted into the rear end resolidified and broke some teeth off the gears of the rear end.

Anyone else dealt with this?

Recently had my pinion seal replaced because a plastic bag was stuck and made its way into the seal causing it to leak. It’s a 2020 with about 12k miles, love this truck, but a plastic bag is capable of putting it out of commission? Do I need to be checking my rear diff every time I get out of the truck to make sure nothing is wrapped back there?

Saw something about the N series BMW engine could have the front seal wiped out by the serpentine belt. They fixed it by smearing RTV over the seal around the shaft. Saw it on I Do Cars when he tore down a twin turbo N engine.

Had that happen to me several years ago. Luckily what I was driving was not mine--it was my employer's vehicle. From then on, if I see a plastic bag go under the vehicle I watch in the rearview to see if it comes out. If it doesn't, I check that pinion area the next time I stop.

Man, that's some bad luck! It's crazy how something as simple as a plastic bag can cause such a headache. You'd never think it could lead to a $650 repair bill. While it might not be practical to check your rear diff every time you hop out of your truck, it's a good reminder of the importance of being mindful of where you park and making sure there aren't any potential hazards nearby. It's unfortunate that we have to deal with these kinds of issues, but it's just the reality of driving.I've been trying to be more eco-friendly when it comes to plastic. I've started using custom zip locking bags for various purposes, and it's been a small but impactful change in reducing plastic waste.

I used to work for the State of California Highway Department for 33 1/3 years.

I have seen every possible piece of furniture, some car parts & many animals, underneath more car & trucks than you would believe.
Deer were the largest animals that have seen under vehicles, the deer hide can really mess up a drive shaft.

One image that i recall seeing, was from down in Australia

I was driving my wife's Explorer and a short piece of 2X4 that fell off a truck ahead of us cartwheeled under the car and punctured the plastic trans pan.

Back in the late 80's I was driving my Ford Ranger in the middle lane on the freeway. As I was coming up on a truck pulling a trailer in the right lane, I noticed a wrench lying on his left fender bouncing up and down. Just as I commented to my girlfriend about it, it bounced off, hit the asphalt and catapulted into the air a couple times before I caught up to it. It ended up going under my truck, and I could hear it hitting everything under there for a couple seconds before I left it behind. A few minutes later, my idiot light came on and I pulled to the shoulder. It had broken my oil filter off.

I guess I was lucky. For a split second as it was bouncing up in the air I had this picture of it coming through the windshield. That would have been bad ju-ju at 65 MPH.

Yeah, that would've been bad coming through the windshield at 65. When the 2X4 cartwheeled under the wife's Explorer, we didn't get any idiot lights or anything. The trans pan was cracked and the fluid drizzled out somewhat slowly, and we did see smoke as it started hitting the hot exhaust. We were in Atlanta traffic, so there was no way to swerve to miss the wood going under the car.
