I wonder how long this has been missing?

Ram did not start putting the panel door in Ram until January 2016
I ordered my Ram in October of 2015, it shipped out of Michigan in Mid December
It did not have the cut out door installed
To this day, they still don't install the filter itself

.....................................................................
I believe that you may have cut a bit too much plastic to install the door.
I think the lower cut line is suppose to be straight across, but i don't know if that really matters & no one will ever see it

My 2016 2500 MC CTD came with CAF installed. . . .as did my 2018 3500 MC CTD!

Are you saying that RAM does not install the cabin air filter in the trucks they build? There is one in my 2022.
There was one in my 2019 (DT) as well.

Well my a 2014 has no filter in it either, I don't miss it, maybe if I lived with a lot of dirt , sand blowing around.
You’ll miss it when your ac evaporator goes out…

All the dirt and dust from the air is known for creating mud with the condensation on the evaporator and clogging it up

My 17 came with a cabin filter, but it looked like it was recently changed as did the air box filter. (almost owned for one year now)

Even in drier climates, people have mentioned that their allergies from pollen are noticeably lessened with the filter being installed

Back in 09 only certain higher end models had a cabin filter. The air box is the same on most all models so the area that needs cutting out for one is there but they never had a filter put in. You can buy a kit online that allows you to fit filter in and then seal the hole up nice and all like from factory. Costs like 18$

Not only that, the amount of dust that collects inside the cabin is greatly reduced to almost nothing. I live off dirt roads, just over two miles from a paved road. I'm really impressed with the cabin filter's ability to filter out contaminants.

My salesperson told me that RAM installs some sort of high-efficiency particulate air filter for the cabin. I wish I paid more attention to what he told me about the cabin air filter but I recall him using the term HEPA.

@BossHogg , I just replaced the cabin air filter for my wife's new (to us) Toyota Highlander with the OE filter, and they're adding "activated charcoal" to the filter elements now. Super fancy! Unfortunately it makes the brand new out-of-the-box filter look filthy from the start. Oh well.

When I had my 2014 3500, it had the factory caf. Here in SW Oklahoma that was one of the first things I replaced.
I've got to look and see if my 01 1500 even has the door outline to do the add a filter mod.
That would be a good, cheap one to do.
Been busy rebuilding a complete replacement dashboard, frame and top, for it currently.
Oklahoma summer's just destroy the plastic.

I understand the benefits for allergy etc. But downside is the filters are what I call rodent nesting supply. Hence I spent over 2 hour last year removing bits and pieces from through the HVAC system as no air was flowing through any vents. Not on my 2016 ram but on 19 Honda pilot.
As old guy who survived driving stuff with Armstrong steering, 4/60 AC as well as riding bikes without helmet, knee pads etc. I can take lack of cabin filter. YVMV.
Oh yeah, stay off my lawn too kids!!

Just a comment:
Brand new 2022 or 2023 Rams come out with a CAF that has a filter element that is suppose to clear the air of viruses, just like the passenger planes

I know in the HVAC biz they use UV lights to kill virus's and other bacteria. That would probably make the most sense in the 5th gens. As filter media becomes more fine the restriction increases and can reduce output and put more stress on the system parts. Most brands of shop vac sell or install HEPA filters OTB but recommend removing them depending on use as they clog so easily and add stress to the motor.

Isn’t Honda the company that uses environmentally friendly wiring that rodents find tasty? LoL
I’m an old guy too and in my day we were just fine with clouds of toxic black smoke from burning wiring encased in some sort of plastic rodents don’t like. In fact I probably have a video tape of if somewhere in the closet with my Betamax camcorder. My old lungs appreciate the cabin filters on vehicles today. The Plymouth Fury that I learned to drive on back when Jimmy Carter was president didn’t have a CAF but the rust holes in the floorboards made it easier to get a good flow of fresh air. Now move into the 21st century and at least get a doorbell camera so you can see when my grandkids sneak up and pick your flowers! LOL

I have been lead to the impression that they likely did install it in '09. Just probably only in limiteds kind of deal, and from what I have seen, we don't have too many laramie+ owners on here... (Heck, a lot of the time my Rebel seems to be the highest body package in a lot of the threads I see here.) IE my Ram was serviced by Firestone/Havoline for ~60k miles (4 years for me), and only once did they think to check the filter in my '18. (I have been doing the services for the past ~1.5 years). And at one point, I ASKED the guy, and he said "some have it, some don't, only way to know is to drop the glove compartment."

My filter was BAD when I changed it the first time myself. Now running the KN lifetime cabin filter. Going to swap the engine to the same when it is due.

My 2010 Laramie didn't have it...
I got the door kit off ebay and did the mod.
Did they even have a limited type vehicle in '09?...
I would've thought laramie back then was top of the line .
