You can pull the "it's too expensive so I'm cancelling" for SXM radio and they'll give you the new customer discount rate for another year.

When I had called about Guardian they weren't willing to knock much off. After several calls attempting to affect a discount I gave up and cancelled after my trial. Even the "please come back" mail I got was still for full price.

When I got my 2018 RAM in Oct it came with 6 mo of Uconnect service if I remember right. Since then every June i reenlist, this last June I got the Convenience Pkg for $188.91. I was told they give additional discount because I am also a Siriusxm subscriber.

I've been paying about $78 Canadian per year since about 2010.
Actually, it was once upon a time about $48 but, you know how that goes. Up up up.

PM to me and I'll tell you what works for me.

UPDATE: OOPs, my deals identified above were strictly for Sirius Xm radio and had nothing to do with Guardian Services. My apology for any confusion I may have created.

I attempted to see if they would be willing to budge on the “Assistance” package. Basically remote start and unlock/lock. They aren’t budging on the $14.95 monthly or $165 yearly. This def a ripoff. My wife’s new highlander is only $80 a year for the same service. Keep in mind these data packages are being sold to these car manufactures in bulk. I’m guessing at most $20-40 a year. They are basically sending a text to the vehicle to initiate these service features in real time. I’m really surprised they aren’t willing to take less instead of nothing. I guess enough owners are paying full price.

I really can’t understand who the target owner is for the map package. Most folks have a smart phone that provides that ability with maps that are always up to date. Def a head scratcher.

I was willing to pay $80 a year for the remote start ability, but $165 feels irresponsible especially after spending almost $90k for a 2022 1500 Limited last year. Hell that’s likely irresponsible as well.

I agree. For me there is value in the service but the more I think about it not $165 worth. I may do what dschmid37 does. If I renew now even for 1 month I think they give me 3 months free. That would cover me for the rest of the winter.

I now just pay by the month for the winter season. I don't need it in the summer.

Every vehicle has GPS and connected services now so the manufacturer can make even more money by forcing you to buy the NAV package since they've already got the equipment installed. Even if you don't pay for personal use (Wi-Fi) the car is always communicating with the manufacturer and they are collecting it for future use (marketing, to make cars better, to deny your claim that the car was at fault causing you to crash, etc.).

With us inching ever closer to auto-drive cars like in Demolition Man (they looked very futuristic back in 1993...not so much now) and pay-to-play services on the horizon (you pay for the options to be installed on your vehicle then pay a monthly subscription for the service).

The writing is on the wall that the days are winding down where you buy an option package (e.g. heated seats and steering wheel) and it works. First you pay for the hardware package when you buy your vehicle then you get a free trial for it...then you're hooked and can't live without it. Then you'll have to pay a subscription fee for that "service". BMW dipped their toes in that water not long ago and it did not go well so they rolled that idea back for now.

With billions (yes with a "b") of potential revenue sitting on the table for manufacturers to sweep into their coffers it is not far off.

Here is some info for those interested:

When you buy your vehicle your permission/compliance is implicit in the purchase. You have to pro-actively opt-out of any options (as much as you can).

I renewed my subscription but only a month by month. I'll only use it during the winter so after the three month trial and the one paid month I'll cancel it until November. At first they weren't going to give me the three month free extension. I told them forget it. I changed my mind. All of a sudden it's, let me talk to my supervisor. At that point I knew I had it. Of course they gave it to me. But they extended both the assistant and nav and will charge me for both unless I call and cancel the nav before my free trial is up in April. I'll probably be calling tomorrow to cancel. I don't want or need the nav. With this free extension it'll get me out of winter. That's all I wanted.
