No.

Many flaws are borderline, just good enough to pass development testing only to flunk later in real life.

Companies have done advanced durability tests, they don't catch everything either, especially on very new and different designs.

Statistical probability studies are supposed to be conducted to avoid, but these take time and money.
And we all know who hates that.

Thanks for donating your truck to ramforum lol. You are far more brave than I.

You not worried about possibly causing permanent damage the next time you get tick?

Yeah so my curiosity sometimes outweighs my better judgement lol

But yeah it does worry me a bit, especially now that its my transportation to work. But I listen to it at hot idle before I shut it down every time I drive the truck when I'm testing oil. If it even remotely sounds like its starting to tick, I will dump it the next chance I get. I have 7.5 qts of RL 5w30 with a RP 20-820 on my work bench ready to go when I test oil like this.

Plus the truck is now 10 years old with 89k on the clock. I figure I've gotten 10+ years of reliable service out of it (which is more than I can say for any other vehicles I've owned) and if it needs a cam/lifter job or even a new motor at this point, its WAY cheaper than a new truck.

Then you have decide if you want “more power” if you do have to replace internals.

Holy moly! About a month ago bought 2 gallons of RL 0w30 on Amazon for $45 each...just for fun I checked the price today...$74/gallon!
Not quite as good as the old price, but better than the new, plus free shipping. I've ordered a few times from here and no issues and fast shipping.

Exactly the way that I feel about my 2009. Rust free body (always stored Winters), interior is like new, rear end and transmission have been professionally rebuilt, and the engine runs unbelievably strong and quiet, especially for having 160K miles on it. Paid cash for it back in 2018. If cam/lifters or anything else internal go, it will get a new engine.

2jug kirkland 5w30 ends up 16 bucks per 5 quart jug after 8 bucks off ends tomorrow. My new oil for other vehicle. No finer deal and good moly oil. full synthetic cheaper then most places sell conventional.

Never heard of Kirkland. Just did a search on uoa for it and found this..

I don't see the high moly.
So here's a question.
What is the minimum number of consider an oil and state that an oil has a good amount of moly.

I made a discovery the other day.
Not sure if anyone has heard of the brand Idemitsu
I was looking at a bottle of Toyota brand oil at the garage the other day and noticed this..
Screenshot 2023-01-29 at 10-54-02 TOYOTA 20W50 Petrol Engine Oil 4 Litre Buy Online at Best Pr...png
I can't really confirm it, but I would think that the Toyota has its oils made by Idemitsu Kosan or at least collaborate with them here in Middle East.
Seeing the uoa ane voa on BITOG forums of Toyota oil and Idemitsu's own branded oils, the moly content is really up there. I'm thinking it might be great to try it out.

Right now the current goal is tick prevention. The Toyota oil is cheap.. 24 USD for 4 ltrs. Every 3rd vehicle over here is a Toyota, so it is so readily available. I'm thinking that I would use this for the next oil change and after that do a Blackstone Test and publish the results here.
I am going to do it for the Castrol Magnatec I put in..
If neither are good results, then I'd go with Redline or HPL.

@Burla Noted.. Thanks for the info.
Just for my understanding. Does the moly number on the report mean a high moly content in the oil? I'm just wondering because PUP doesn't seem to have nearly as much as 200ppm from all the reports I see on the BITOG forum.

Exception is PUP 0W-40 originally made for Hellcat, also spec'd for 6.4 in trucks - they spiked it with moly.

Any guesses as to why?

@HEMIMANN Can't really say. I would think they chose that oil for the Hellcat because EPA wasn't the goal.. it was selling the 700 BHP engine, no matter what vehicle it is in.
Also the 6.4 in usually in HD trucks, which generally buys get when they need to do a lot of towing. So that means the engines are going to be working hard.

If that is the case, then PUP 0W-40 should be the standard that we should be recommending on this forum right? Or am I missing something?
Over here in Dubai, we don't get PUP. Maybe if I buy Mopar 0W-40, that is same thing in a different package?

Shell Helix Ultra 0W-40 is about the same as PUP in the USA
