Whenever I back my 12x6 trailer, the collision prevention ******** screams and slams on brakes!

I get an indicator light showing truck knows there is a trailer, but it still refuses to allowing backing a trailer more than 10 feet or so.

For you guys who think you're smartasses, yes there is ample clearance to back up. It does this even in a empty parking lot.

There is a little button at the bottom of the center console that will disable your front/rear sensors.

Agreed that they could have spent 1 more minute tuning that system and disabled it when it knows a trailer is attached, but such is life.

It never gets old in a campground, let me tell ya. Everyone thinks it's your first time out until you remember "oh yeah, there's that little annoying sensor again they added to my truck to make me look bad and keep me humble" and you disable it. Thankfully it remembers the setting until you enable it again.

I also just turn off the rear sensors. My pacifica van is even worse.

I'm confused about the responses to the OP because the responses seem to be focused on the park assist system. The OP's wording was clear, he specifically used the words "collision prevention ******** screams and slams on brakes", an action the parking assistant can't do. The system he is describing is the "rear park sense braking system", a detection system to prevent you from, for example, backing into a vehicle.

The collision avoidance displays a high-impact red warning display in the DIC accompanied by a loud warning sound and applies the brakes firmly, the same way as the frontal collision avoidance system does. I have not had an issue with this system while backing a trailer, one is a boat with surge brakes and the other is an 18-foot car hauler with electric brakes. I have had the system go off when backing down a steep driveway and approaching the roadway.

I'm assuming, albeit I have not tried it, the rear park sense braking system can be defeated and re-enabled at the next ignition cycle. If you have a PDF of your owner's manual search for "Rear ParkSense Braking Assist". They don't say much about it or discuss if it can be disabled. In my version of the owner's manual, page 234, the third item in the table is all I could find. I don't know if turning off the rear sensors using the center stack button will defeat the Rear ParkSense Braking Assist.

It does and most people responses are accurate. My wife's jeep at night sees out concrete in our driveway and stops you. The only way to prevent it is turning off the rear sensor. Most people were talking about the auto shut off of the sensors hooked up to a trailer.

LOL. I found out on the day I bought this truck, I couldn't even get out of my garage. Rear sensors have been disabled since day 1.

In our Durango there's a setting in the radio to disable the braking portion of the rear sensors, does that option exist on the Rams? It still beeps but does not touch the brakes.

I found out the hard way. I have to take my trash can up to the road to have them pick it up. I just drop the tailgate, jump up and hold on the trash can. Wife drives up the road and we drop it off. I jumped back on the tailgate. As wife was backing up the darn truck slammed on the brakes and thru me off. I thought it was her at first. Needless to say we (I) found out the hard way.

I must have turned off the rear braking thingy when I got my truck new(I don’t remember). But when I reverse there’s a message displayer “rear braking sensor turned off” or something to that effect.
I do have a 6x10 utility trailer that I back without issue.

Are there smartasses on these forums?
Going for more coffee, so not now, sounds the same if you open the door with the 8 sp, puts it in park, I have lots of screaming going in or out of the garage, and the wife is not always the one, but no auto brakes on my 2014
